Ramada by Wyndham Strasburg Dover

We’ve stayed here several times before. This visit, Roma Patel greeted us warmly, knew her stuff, and made us feel at home. Our renovated room had fresh paint and new carpet, and it was clean with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was the letdown. The orange and apple juice tasted sour, and they could do better. If that’s how it’ll be, we’re not sure we’ll return. Thank you🙂

The hot tub jets had a notice saying not to use them because they were broken, and the bar was closed too. We’d picked the Ramada in Strasburg after visiting the Walnut Creek Amish Flea Market so we could relax instead of driving home, and those were the two amenities we most wanted. No one warned us before booking or at check-in, and there was nothing about the closures on the website. A restaurant flyer on the desk made it seem like things were open. My husband went down to see the bar, found it shut with no sign, and got locked in the area. He had to leave the building to get back inside. We rarely stay overnight and wanted a simple rest after a long day. Instead, it felt like a waste of time and money. We wouldn’t have booked had we known. The lack of communication was extremely disappointing. I hope management updates the site and tells guests honestly at check-in.

We were exhausted after more than six hours driving, with another three ahead to get home, and our kids were restless after a busy day. The friendly receptionist made the Ramada look like a lucky, easy stop. We went to the room, changed without looking around, then took the kids to the pool. Used towels were piled on chairs, the hot tub jets didn’t work, and the handicap chair looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. We brushed it off since it was only one night. After about an hour, maybe an hour and a half, we returned to shower and get the kids settled. There was hair around the toilet and in the tub, long black hairs in the bedsheets, and what I’m almost certain were signs of bedbugs under the blanket at the foot of the bed. I’ll post pictures. The TV was crooked and looked undusted, the top of the shower seemed never cleaned, and the floors were filthy. I regret not noticing sooner, but we were tired and focused on the kids. The general manager said she couldn’t act without checking with someone, despite a sign promising a full refund if you didn’t stay the night. She offered another room, but with two children under six I wouldn’t put them in another room there. She said she understood but needed the owner’s say-so. After hesitating, she wrote down an email address and assured my husband there’d be a call after she spoke to him. There was no call the next day. When we phoned, we were told she wouldn’t be in until 3. Later she told my husband she’d tried calling, but it rang once and went to voicemail, so she hadn’t left a message. The owner refused a refund, she said. The manager admitted the next day she hadn’t checked our room. When I reported the bedbug signs, she didn’t come look. Another woman at the desk was asking for fresh sheets, and two other rooms had similar complaints. The owner apparently denied the refund because we’d “used the amenities.” The hot tub didn’t even work, and seeing the state of the water made me think we might all need our vaccinations updated. I rarely leave negative reviews because people make mistakes, but this was a health hazard. Please don’t stay here.

We were in town for a funeral with five kids and got back after 5pm. There weren’t other rooms in the area, and moving everyone would have been a hassle. When I asked for a 50% discount for the nights we stayed, the owner refused. The offer was to refund two nights instead of four if we checked out. We weren’t offered a discount or a room change when we first raised the problems with the manager, who said she’d contact the owners. Rooms 103 and 105 had dirty sheets. Room 107 had no hot water, while room 105 had scalding water that could have burned the kids. There was a bucket of dirty water under a sink that the kids found, and the one-year-old played in it. The phones in rooms 103, 105, and 107 didn’t work. A wire connected to the A/C unit was hanging out where our one-year-old could have been electrocuted, so we tucked it underneath. There were baby roaches in every room, and nails and staples in the carpet in all the rooms that the kids could have stepped on. I’m going to contact the health department.
