Three nights went by too fast. Stratton’s amenities are only a short walk away, and even over President's Weekend our room was quiet. The room in building three was spotless, with a rug that looked new and beds so comfortable I wanted to bring a pillow home. The room ran warm, but opening the windows let in some fresh air. I’d been worried by other reviews, but we had a wonderful stay and I’d come back. Housekeeping even found the boots I left behind and is sending them to my home by FedEx. I’ve stayed in luxury hotels and places in between, and this quaint, rustic lodge has bones worth saving. I know the old-fashioned feel isn’t for everyone, but I hope they don’t knock it down. A little updating is all it needs. Having no front desk wasn’t a problem for us.

The room was fine, and both the bathroom and the inexpensive linens were clean. It’s a basic place with worn, dated 70s decor and no staff or front desk on site. Everything is handled at the nicer hotel a short walk away, and there’s no one here for security. You could probably just walk in and sleep on a common room couch for free. Still, it’s the only dog friendly place in Stratton, with no pet fee, and I’ve never found somewhere slope side for under $100. If you’re looking for Stratton Village luxury, this won’t suit you. For a cheap ski bum spot to crash after a day on the slopes, it’s fine.

We spent most of the evening in the Black Bear lodge lobby and game room, and stayed just one night. Maybe the main building is a little better, where we stayed years ago, but building 3 was bad. The room was a decent size and seemed clean, though the heat was blasting and the windows wouldn’t open. Of the three lamps, only one worked. A maintenance worker brought a bulb for another, but the third had a short and stayed out. The showerhead was awful and barely made more than a mist, though at least the water was hot. In the lobby, there were dusty, sad-looking armchairs and a closed-up fireplace. When we arrived, two large clear bags of tied-up garbage were sitting there. They were still there the next morning, and the maintenance crew, including a manager, didn’t seem to notice. It felt neglected, not just dated. It could’ve been worse, I suppose, but I don’t think I’ll stay here again.

Being cheap and close to the mountain are the only perks here. The heat can’t be turned down, the beds are really old, and everything looks worn out. There was blood splatter on the wall, and the lamps looked like they were made of human flesh.

We drove two hours to Straaton, checked in, then checked right back out and drove home. The place was disgusting, smelled bad, and I felt unsafe. The room and hallways were both nasty, and they were very unaccommodating. We booked the liftline because they accept dogs. I know other places don’t take dogs, but someone should’ve explained how nasty this place was.
