Lodge at Leathem Smith

We spent four nights and five days in the Captains Suite, and the service was the best I've ever experienced. Everyone seemed genuinely happy and proud of the resort, and they made us feel like family. The Thanksgiving buffet was the best I've had, turkey included. The room was clean, the mattress comfortable, and the fireplace and jacuzzi tub were wonderful. I'm very sensitive to noise, but the walls and ceiling kept sound out remarkably well. The views were beautiful, and the location was great. I could see the rooms getting some updates, like bigger TVs and more modern touches. There was quite a bit of smoke smell from the halls in our room, which was unfortunate, and we found a number of spiders, though I know that's normal for Door County. Still, it's a must-stay for us. We'll be back.

I won't be coming back after this visit. For what it costs, I expected much better food, but it tasted burnt and like it came from the freezer. The corners where spiders nest also make me question how well they clean. If you decide to go, good luck. I'll say a prayer for you.

The room had plenty of space, a comfortable bed, and a nice hot tub, though it did feel somewhat dated. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. Housekeeping worked hard to get us checked in early, and they were very busy. We had lots of room to walk the dogs, plus a small patio where we could sit and take them out. Breakfast in the main lodge was decent and included an omelet station.

The view right by the water is beautiful, and the location makes it easy to get downtown or head up either side of the peninsula. The rooms are dated, but clean and comfortable. It's nothing fancy, just a nice place to sleep, with top notch staff who are friendly and helpful. Breakfast has made-to-order omelets as well as the usual continental choices. We'll definitely return.
