We loved the trip, though getting into the cabin was a hassle. The door code failed, and with no cell service for miles we couldn't contact anyone. An employee happened to come by and gave us another code, which worked right away. Our cabin shared a driveway with the one beside it, so those guests walked right past us. We could hear them talking, and doing other things 🤭, while we sat by our fire pit. Thankfully my 11 year old wasn't outside then. Some of the other cabins looked much more private. We still really enjoyed the place and hope to come back.

The area was lovely and secluded, and the locals were really friendly. A couple even helped us get back to the cabin after our car got stuck at night, about 20 minutes away. Just be aware there's no service until the nearest town, 45 minutes away. That was a real hassle when our car broke down. We only had one full day there on a weekend getaway. The cabin was cute and cozy, with plates, cups, and utensils, good heat, a nice fire pit area, and plenty of hot water for showers both days. Outside the parking space and gravel fire pit, there isn't much to do on site. There's a trail, but we didn't try it and drove to nearby trails instead. The floor covering was a strange rubbery carpet throughout, even in the bathroom. It had stains and seemed impossible to clean, and the bathroom smelled like urine. I'm pregnant, so I noticed it much more than my husband, who was only a little bothered. The bed was uncomfortable and felt like sleeping on the platform, with too little support for the hips. If you're pregnant, it could be really painful. The lantern over the bed and the outdoor light didn't work either. With toddlers, they make you book the double bunk, presumably for code reasons, but it wasn't set up well for little kids. All four of us squeezed onto the bottom bed, and we brought in the bags we'd planned to leave in the car to block each stair so they couldn't climb up. The open ledge and gap by the window also seemed risky for small children. I wouldn't recommend it for families with toddlers, especially since there isn't much for kids to do nearby on site. Maybe we'd return when our kids are older if they replace the flooring. Bring extra towels for the bathroom and for drying dishes if you cook.
The staff were kind and helpful throughout, and the daily refreshers were a nice part of the stay. They restocked snacks and brought three bundles of firewood each day, which made the destination fee feel worthwhile. Cell service was limited, but it was enough to call or text our teens and even scroll Instagram. It still felt like a real break from the city. The cabin had everything we needed and then some. I'm an over-packer, but was glad I brought extra towels, toilet paper, and a Brita water filter. We adored the little cabin and are already booking another stay, this time at a different location.
The cabin was decently secluded and a nice spot for fresh air, and the staff tried their best once they heard about the problems. Still, this was disappointing, and Getaway was a much better experience before Marriott took over. We couldn't get the cabin location or lock code at check-in, and couldn't reach staff for hours. The screen door was broken, there was an unpleasant smell as soon as we entered, possibly from the AC unit, and used contact lenses were on the large window ledge. The lantern hadn't charged, so we couldn't use it. Cleanliness and maintenance overall weren't great.
The cabin and views were beautiful, and the on-site staff we eventually reached were kind. But we spent much of our only full day dealing with problems that other guests had apparently reported for months without them being fixed. We didn't get check-in instructions, and the reservation phone number went to the Marriott main line, where nobody could help. We were redirected several times and only got the right number by luck. Arriving just before dark, we had no map or directions to the cabin. We had to go back to the entrance, find the map, take a photo, and try again. Then the door code failed, as did the backup lockbox code. A staff member finally came with another code so we could get in. The cabin smelled strongly of fried fish as soon as we entered, and the odor never cleared. We aired it out, used our own odor eliminator, and wiped beneath the cabinets. The next morning we got Odoban and, for some reason, bug spray, but the smell remained. The location is wonderful and the cabin has potential, but these repeated, unresolved problems made the stay far more stressful than enjoyable.
