Our first time skiing was well worth the day's cost. We were glad they stayed open longer than Beech, so we could ski during spring break. It had snowed a few days earlier, and the conditions were great. We brought our own rentals, bought lift tickets, then signed up for a lesson at the ski school. Hamilton was a fantastic instructor, patient, knowledgeable, and kind. He adjusted the lesson to how everyone was doing and helped us feel confident. We were lucky to have him! The kids went to sugar bear ski school. They had a rough start because they weren't used to ski boots, but got going and had a great time. Booking opens 4 days ahead at 12:01am and fills fast. The food was good, and it was nice having lockers. The lift was fun, and the whole family enjoyed Easy Street together after lessons. Thank you all!

My family tried snowboarding for the first time today, and we had a blast. The most frustrating part may have been buying tickets and rentals. Some staff were incredibly helpful, others weren't. We rented skis and snowboards for the full experience, and got much-needed help and a few tips while on the mountain. I'd suggest registering ahead and planning the trip in advance.

We went to the October Fest in October 2025. There were chairlift rides for $22pp, hayrides for $7pp, bounce houses, craft vendors, and live German music outside. German food was good: a platter with Brat, cold German potato salad, saurkrut, and bread was $17. Beer started at $8.50. Dogs are welcome, and parking is free, with shuttle rides if needed.

If you’re hoping for a relaxed day, try a weekday or night skiing, since weekends and holidays bring crowds, long lift lines, and chaotic parking. Go after a cold snap for better snow, and get there early because the lots fill fast. Conditions can change a lot. With heavy reliance on snowmaking, the 78 inches of natural snow a year doesn't prevent icy runs after freeze-thaw cycles. Snow-Forecast users give it a 3.0/5 for snow reliability, and 2.4/5 overall for variety and off-piste. The mountain’s main draw is its size for North Carolina: a 1,200 ft vertical drop, the state's largest, around 125 skiable acres, 20-21 runs across all difficulty levels, 8 lifts including high-speed options, and a longest run of about 1.5 miles. Off-piste options are very limited, and it still feels small compared with Western resorts, though it works well for day trips. Terrain variety gets praise, but the snow, crowds, and ice get complaints. Families can find tubing and ice skating, and the terrain can work for beginners, though crowds may make it stressful. The lodge is functional but dated, food is average, and staff reviews range from friendly to overwhelmed depending on crowds. It's not luxury, but it does the job. Reviews are mixed: TripAdvisor is at 3.0/5 from 861 reviews, with complaints about lines and conditions; OnTheSnow praises the terrain but also notes crowds and ice. Tourist Checklist highlights views, friendly staff, and fun runs. It may suit Southeast skiers looking for North Carolina's biggest vertical, intermediates who want longer runs, locals who can ski weekday mornings, and families interested in tubing and skating. It may disappoint those expecting Western-style snow, advanced skiers looking for challenging or off-piste terrain, anyone who hates crowds, or people visiting on a Saturday. If you want a quieter alternative, Beech Mountain or Appalachian Ski Mountain are options.
