OYO Townhouse Sulphur, la Extended Stay

The room cleanliness was maybe a 2/10, and the pillows were thin, with only two provided. The blankets were thin too, and they said they wouldn’t give us extras. My two kids and I all got sick, with coughing, irritated noses and sore throats. I’m guessing the air conditioners or filters need cleaning. We were in a smoke-free room, but it sure wasn’t dust-free. That side door on the first level slammed constantly, all day and night. Staff were okay, but not worth the sore throats. Wi-Fi was horrible, and both my phone and the TVs lagged badly, so I couldn’t finish homework or watch anything. I’d sleep in my car before staying here again.

I won’t book another Oreo property, and this one won’t get any more of my money while that little lady is running it. The manager is short, talks very fast and comes at you with an attitude, then says you’re the one with the attitude. They charged me a $100 pet fee for my service animal and refused to refund it, claiming the room was a disaster. It wasn’t. I’m a CNA and very OCD about cleaning. I took out all the trash and linen before the housekeeper even had to knock each morning. We stayed four days. My animal is registered as a service animal, has papers, and has been trained. I will not be back.

The front desk people were kind and helpful, and I liked that they had full-size fridges with freezers. They also let you set the AC colder than some hotels that lock the minimum temperature. But it’s not a great place. The rooms are filthy, there are roaches, and the beds are uncomfortable. Honestly, it seems like most guests are either work travelers trying to stretch their per diem or vagrants who’ve scraped together enough for a cheap week.

The manager and cleaning staff were both so friendly, and the surroundings were nice. Everything in the room was just right, with a small kitchen and a big refrigerator. It’s easy to walk to things nearby, and the price is reasonable. I love these hotels.
