Inn on Summer Hill

We checked in during the evening and headed to dinner without taking a close look at the room. Once we got back and started getting ready for bed, the dust set off awful allergies for both of us. I’m not usually allergic to dust, but my sinuses were blocked and I felt terrible. My fiancée had an asthma flare, couldn’t sleep, and was still having trouble breathing the next day. Her eye was swollen too, and she was genuinely sick. We left by 8am, but even after seeing her red, swollen eye and hearing her cough, the hotel wouldn’t cancel the reservation for the following night. The room seemed not to have been cleaned properly, or perhaps hadn’t been occupied for a long time. The road noise people complain about was the least of our problems. The hotel looks cute and sits in a beautiful spot, but this was the worst hotel stay I’ve ever had. It felt disgusting and like a trap.

Breakfast was nicely done, but the afternoon snack was stale brownies. They were awful, and that was my one complaint. The rest of our stay was great: we had a king room with an ocean view from Monday to Wednesday and pretty much had the place to ourselves. The jacuzzi was great too. It’s in a cute little town, far enough from Santa Barbara that the price was really reasonable, but still close enough to get there easily. If a bad free brownie is the only letdown, I’m happy with the place. 1000% recommend.

The staff were really nice, and the town is cute, but the rooms could use an update. Our room 10 faced the ocean and the 101 freeway, so the traffic noise at night was disappointing. I can usually sleep through anything, but even I noticed it. Watch out in the shower, the floor was very slippery and there wasn’t a grab bar. The coffee maker in the room didn’t work very well either.

A charming, pleasant hotel, and every room has an ocean view. Nice spot for a weekend getaway.
