Bear Lodge Motel

For the price, this older motel is a great value and very well kept. My room had a recently updated shower with pretty wall tile, and the tub had a sloped back that was much nicer for soaking than the upright tubs common in motels. I called ahead since I’d arrive after 10 pm. The clerk took my reservation by phone, so I didn’t have to deal with a website while driving, and left my key for after the office closed. The coffee was better than the usual breakfast buffet coffee. I didn’t get a full look at breakfast, but saw Pop Tarts and Nutri-Grain bars among the options.

I couldn’t check in because I hadn’t realized the motel was on its winter schedule, and Verizon service was out, so I couldn’t call the owner. I tracked down a passing sheriff’s deputy, who called for me. Both the deputy and the owner came through, and the owner was incredibly understanding, helpful, and nonjudgmental even though I apologized over and over. The motel is a little older, but cozy, quiet, and reasonably priced. I’d recommend staying here while traveling, and I won’t forget how you both helped me.

I came here to get out of a winter storm and would stay again if I’m in the area. The room was roomy and clean, with really soft sheets, a warm shower, and good water pressure.

The mattress wasn’t very comfortable, which is why I’d give it four stars instead of five. Still, it was a spacious single queen room, very clean, with plenty of hot water and good pressure. The owner and staff were friendly, and the price was very reasonable in a good location. Breakfast wasn’t offered, but that doesn’t matter to me. I’d stay again if I’m nearby.
