The Domain Hotel

The room was filthy, with dead bugs, debris on the floor, dust everywhere, stains, bad patches and holes in the walls. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. The tub and shower had recently been painted white, so the bathroom smelled of fresh paint. The toilet ran all night, and the blackout curtains still let light through, making it hard to keep our 5-month-old asleep. When we told the front desk, the staff member laughed and said we could check out if we didn't like it. They made no effort to fix anything. Avoid this hotel like the plague!

We paid about $1,800 for our January 9-24 stay at The Domain Hotel and were among the longest-staying guests. Our concerns were minimized, reframed as wanting an upgrade, which was never the case, and ultimately dismissed without resolution. We were later told in writing that another comparable room had been offered, but that did not happen. My wife had disclosed a hip injury that affects her sleep. The assigned Sleep Number bed caused significant discomfort and physical pain, despite repeated attempts to adjust it. We raised this several times over multiple days. Instead of a comparable room, they offered a cot, which worsened her condition and caused ongoing inflammation. For a two-week paid stay, that was not a reasonable substitute for a standard bed. Routine interactions with staff were repeatedly escalated to several people at once. It felt unnecessary and intimidating, especially since other guests were helped by just one staff member. Whatever the intent, we felt singled out instead of supported. If you're a woman of color with accessibility needs or need a comfortable bed, proceed with caution. In our experience, the hotel wouldn't provide reasonable alternatives or take accountability when accommodations failed.

The AC was so loud it made sleeping difficult, and all we wanted was a quiet, comfortable room. The pillows smelled bad too. Staff offered to move us, but we only took replacement pillows, and just two of those didn't smell. For a four-star hotel, this fell well short of expectations.

On our last morning, the cleaning staff woke me at 8:45 AM with a knock, even though the do not disturb sign was on the door at eye level. It's a small 2”x2” magnet, so I can understand missing it, but they provide the sign and should know what to look for. They came back at 10:30 AM to tell us to check out soon, while the sign was still up. Everywhere, including the room door, said checkout was 12 PM-Noon. We planned to sleep in a little and take our time before checkout. I've never had hotel staff ignore a do not disturb sign and hassle us about leaving like that. At breakfast I also spotted small things in the salt shakers. The first one we picked up had a small beetle in it, and another from a different table had random small things too. Be warned about the cleanliness and poor service. The online photos looked good and reviews seemed decent, but the place was below average, run down and had mediocre service. I don't know how it has four stars or how the reviews fail to reflect the actual experience. I wouldn't stay again or recommend anyone stay here. I wouldn't recommend it even to my enemy.
