Hampton Inn By Hilton Superior Duluth

The pool was freezing, and the door in the pool area was iced over. We also had to go to the desk for fresh towels after housekeeping took our used ones without leaving replacements. During our three-night stay there was no hot water at all. We reported it several times, but it was never fixed, and nobody offered compensation. The staff were unhelpful and unfriendly, making us feel like an inconvenience. Definitely not worth $200 a night.

I called at 9 am on the day we were checking in to ask if we could get into a room around noon. The man who answered, Matt or Matthew, argued with me instead of checking with housekeeping or assigning a room. He insisted we had to come to the hotel and ask in person after arriving in town. We’d already been driving for six hours to visit a dying friend, and my 80-year-old mother needed a chance to rest. I’ve worked in hotels for 10 years, and I know how this works. Assigning us a room for an early check-in should have been simple. It was Monday, cold and in the middle of winter in Superior, and there wasn’t anything going on in town, so I can’t see a reason we weren’t allowed in early. It felt like he was throwing his petty authority around and didn’t want to do his job. I’ll never stay at one of your hotels again. I can’t believe someone at your front desk treated us this way.

The breakfast was good, and the staff were friendly. The room was clean enough otherwise. There were some black specks in one of our two beds. We only used the other bed, so it wasn’t a big issue, but we don’t know what the specks were and avoided that bed.

For the price, my stay at the Hampton Inn - Superior, WI didn’t meet expectations. The hotel covered the basics, but the overall value wasn’t there, and the breakfast was disappointing. The room could have been cleaner, too. We asked about checking in early around 1 pm and were told to come back at 3 pm, which made sense. But when we returned at 3:15, the manager helping us said the room still wasn’t ready and came across as dismissive and unprofessional. It was frustrating when they brushed off our point that staff had had a little over 2 hours to prepare it. They also didn’t acknowledge us as Hilton Honors members.
