I paid for the Mountain Lodge Full House and the stay wasn’t worth the $1,000-plus. The toilets had plumbing issues, there was no Wi-Fi for my whole stay, and the TV wouldn’t connect to it despite Wi-Fi being advertised. Beer cans from the previous guest were still on the deck when we arrived. There wasn’t a box of tissues or paper towels, just cheap, thin toilet paper that my group had to fetch from the bathroom. I brought these problems to staff, but they brushed me off and didn’t want to help. Working toilets, a clean place, advertised Wi-Fi, and a box of tissues are basic expectations. I’ll look at other resorts for my next gathering, and you should too.

The princess lodge room was cozy, clean, and really cute, with a neat view. It could use a few small repairs, and the windows don’t provide the best privacy. One night the power went out. We called the 24-hour maintenance number but got no help or update; the power came back after about an hour. The lack of communication wasn’t ideal, but I’d recommend the place overall.

I was disappointed by the lack of basic service and won’t be back. The bathrooms didn’t seem to get much attention: the same literal poop stain stayed on top of the toilet seat for days. Maybe the slopes were the priority, since they appeared to be groomed every night. The cabin had great views, but the walkway was still slushy even though it had been cleared with a snowblower before we arrived and it hadn’t snowed for days. There was no cleared route to the bathroom and shower facilities without crossing another cabin’s deck. We also had no mats inside to keep snow from being tracked in, so I used a couple of old bath towels from my car. The cabin was supposed to include a complimentary bundle of wood for the woodstove, but it wasn’t there. That wasn’t a huge problem, but having to pester the front desk was annoying.

I was on the hill for about 10 minutes when I hurt my knee badly. We had a ski-in, ski-out cabin, and as I stepped to put my boots in my skis, my boot sank through the snow into a hole more than a foot deep. My knee popped and twisted, and I needed help getting my boot out. First aid came and helped me, and they were wonderful. But the snow in that spot wasn’t packed, and I never used the lift or even made it down the hill. Given how serious the injury was, I couldn’t use anything I’d paid for. Management refused a refund, even half, or a ski lift credit, saying I’d signed a waiver. I understand there’s a policy, but the circumstances should matter. I wasn’t trying to sue anyone. I paid $160 for nothing, and our weekend cabin plans were ruined. Ten minutes on the snow shouldn’t mean losing the whole amount. There’s no customer service anymore, and I’m furious. Why wasn’t the snow packed there? You can’t apply one broad rule to every situation without considering the details. Just sad.

My niece’s wedding was lovely, but our stay at Mont du Lac was a different story. We had no hot water. The after-hours number was provided for problems, but no one answered our several calls or texts. I finally spoke to someone in person the next morning, but nothing was fixed before we had to get ready for the late-afternoon wedding. I was promised a partial refund, but a month later I still haven’t received it. There was also a mouse upstairs, a broken lamp, and several window screens that wouldn’t stay in place. I’d paid months ahead, so the property knew we’d be there as guests. The service didn’t feel welcoming.
