I’ve raised these ownership and management problems over the last 2-3 years, and I’m done staying here until the owner makes improvements. I’d rather drive 30 minutes from Alex City when I’m working in Sylacauga. The hotel needs a serious redo, with better quality work this time. It’s below what I expect from many HIE hotels. The bathroom has tiles pulling away near the floor, and there’s mildew or mold in and above the shower. The toilet seat is deteriorating, which is especially gross. Carpets, furniture, and table surfaces looked dirty, and there weren’t many towels. When I arrived late, the snack area was completely empty. It was restocked the next morning, but I wondered if everything gets put away at night to stop theft. It’s a shame if people are taking things without paying. The hallway carpet by the left rear entrance is filthy. The card reader there didn’t work, and the door often stays open unless you push or slam it shut. Parking in front is limited, while the back lot is dark and a bit scary, especially if you’re traveling alone. Large construction trucks and trailers often take up several spots. I hope these issues get attention.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. We found ants in the beds and beetle bugs on the wall, and other rooms had the same problem. They were handing out insecticide for people to spray on the beds and in the rooms. After we were moved, the second room was better, but the place is old and badly needs renovation. The bathroom walls and baseboards were cracked, and the floor in our first room hadn’t been vacuumed properly, with debris beside my bed. The health department should close it until it’s brought up to standard.

The front desk staff were nice, and the older remodeled hotel was clean. Breakfast was the letdown: the oven had been broken for a week, and the pancake maker was broken too. They should have mentioned at check-in that there wouldn’t be a hot breakfast.

I found toenail clippings beside the bed while I was barefoot getting in. That was the worst part, but the hallway had several smells and the room had peeling paint too. The front desk employee was really nice. Housekeeping had gone home, so she left the desk to help, vacuumed the whole room, and made sure it was clean at 10:30 at night. She said they’d had ongoing problems with housekeeping and the head of housekeeping. I’m never staying here again.

I paid for a big room, but it needed repairs: the blinds wouldn’t open, the fire sprinkler was sticking out of the ceiling, the toilet paper holder was coming loose, and there was no room phone. For what I paid, I was very disappointed. The pool, third-floor ice machine, and breakfast pancake maker were all out of order.
