The side I stayed on was really clean, and the room had plenty of space with a nice bed and pillows. The night staff were super friendly. There are an Ihop, a Burger King, and an Elmers basically in the same parking lot. Apparently the place has two sides.
The room itself was pleasant and clean, and the staff were welcoming. But I had to put up with people partying and stomping around upstairs all night, plus a guy working on his vehicle and setting off his car alarm over and over. It was a miserable stay. I was there on weekdays and weeknights too, waiting for truck repairs at Kenworth, not just for a weekend. This was the only nearby place my employer would reimburse, so I had to endure it.
There are lots of things nearby, but the homeless community around there is pretty rough. The same kid came up to me several times in one day asking me to buy his drugs.
Amy knows the property well and handles things capably. I haven't needed much, but when I've asked for something, a few things have slipped through the cracks. Amy gets it sorted quickly, though. She's earned her place as manager and more.
The night receptionist was friendly and welcoming, and I appreciated her hospitality. That's the only good thing I can say about this stay. I found the hotel on hotels.com because it was cheap, near downtown Tacoma, and rated 8+/10. The photos looked decent. I knew a Motel 6 wouldn't be luxurious, but this was one of the worst hotels I've stayed in, and the worst Motel 6 by far. Even compared with random roadside places like Vagabond Inn and Super 8, it stood out as a bad experience. Our first room looked unclean: fingerprints everywhere, stains on the white sheets, specks on the mirror, a dirty sink, and no soap. We asked to change rooms. The so-called upgrade looked somewhat clean and had soap, but there was a baby cockroach on the wall and it smelled of smoke. Early in the morning, a woman yelling outside woke us. When we checked in, several police cars were arresting someone on the corner. At checkout, unhoused people with bags and bags of belongings were in the lobby, and the smell was awful. I understand the hardship of being unhoused, but it wasn't what I expected at a hotel I paid $100 for one night. I've never given a one-star review before, so hopefully that shows I don't do it lightly. If you stay here, lower your expectations or go elsewhere. It was dirty, smelly, loud, and didn't feel safe.
