We found a room at the last minute when heavy rain hit during our camping trip, after we were disappointed not to see MtMckinley. A quick online reservation got us the door code right away, and the bunk bed room, the last one available, was comfortable and had what we needed. Our private bathroom was down the hall, with soap, shampoo, conditioner, a hair dryer, and towels. Laundry coins were in the room, and the cost would come off the hotel fee, which made it easy. There were so many thoughtful touches that it felt like staying with a host who really cared about our comfort. The two cozy common rooms had a fridge, microwave, sink, and other basics, and in late August we had them to ourselves. There was coffee and takeaway cups in our room, plus fireplaces, puzzles, interesting books, games, watercolors, chess, and fresh baked cookies you could help yourself to. Pretty bouquets on the table, too. I still think of this place as my happy place. It was glorious, and I can't wait to return.

This is just about the bakery: the pastries are baked fresh daily and are delicious. We especially love the blueberry one, which has been amazing every time we've tried it. The reindeer-stuffed pastry was delicious too. A great stop for a quick bite and coffee.

The chocolate cake is a must try. I bought one piece and wished I’d bought the whole cake. It was so moist and delicious, with just the right amount of everything. The stay itself felt nostalgic, like being in an old house, and it was quiet, with a unique medieval times feel. We had no issues, though our bathroom was separate and assigned to us. I loved it and would recommend it to others.

We went back THREE times during our Talkeetna trip because it was so good. The restaurant was closed for the season, but the bakery was open. We loved the Frosty cinnamon roll, and the razzy and blueberry turnovers were our favorites. The staff were friendly, and the Roadhouse atmosphere was great, with puzzles, books, and toys for kids in a really cool setting.

Glad we stopped at the bakery. We got two fried pies, or pasties, packed with fruit and perfectly made. After heating them for about 15-20 seconds, they were delicious. The cinnamon rolls we saved for the next morning were tasty too, full of cinnamon, butter, and brown sugar, very sweet. Check which day you visit Talkeetna, since some shops close on certain days.
