Candlewood Suites Tallahassee by IHG

The staff were courteous and willing to help whenever something came up, but housekeeping was the hotel's main problem. I was in Tallahassee for work, and someone else booked the stay, so I hadn't had time to research it. When I arrived, there was pubic hair on the toilet and the bedding looked unchanged, even though the bed was made. I told the staff, and they fixed it quickly. Housekeeping only comes every seven days, which is frustrating if you're there long enough for trash to build up. I also didn't have enough towels. The front desk gave me clean ones, but said I had to bring my used towels back there myself. I was staying eight nights, so a cleaning on day seven, the day before checkout, didn't make much sense. I asked for an earlier cleaning and they arranged it. Later, one of my bottled waters was gone, then I found my distilled water missing too. I use a CPAP machine for sleep apnea, so I needed it. The front desk woman was very nice, contacted her manager, and he brought me a gallon of distilled water himself. My Tallahassee stay was short enough to manage, but if I'd been there longer, I would've booked somewhere else.

In suite 139, the mini kitchen had a regular-size refrigerator, which I loved compared with the college-size ones hotels usually have. But the stove came with no instructions and its knob was missing. The front desk clerk tried to get a knob from another room but couldn't. Luckily my husband had pliers, and the timer was the only way to turn on the stovetop.

The room was bigger than standard, the beds were comfortable, and everything was very clean. I was concerned because of other reviews, but we had no problems. The front desk clerk was pleasant and helpful, and the housekeeping staff were friendly too. The location is close to FSU, so we'd consider staying here again.

I expect a basic welcome as an IHG Platinum Elite guest, plus a thank-you for being a loyal customer and a chance to choose an amenity or points. None of that happened. The front desk staff were very unfriendly. An elderly guest ahead of me asked where to eat and got, “any direction there's food.” That's true, but they could've been more helpful to someone visiting from out of town. When I stepped up, I got no greeting, only a curt “give me a minute.” I wasn't in a hurry, so that was fine, but the attitude wasn't. I'm pretty sure I didn't request someone else's bad mood when I made the reservation.
