SpringHill Suites by Marriott Tallahassee North

The hotel is close to many restaurants and has easy access to I-10, but the room was overpriced and at best this is a two-star property. I was here for work and had no choice, but I’ll tell my employer to reconsider future bookings. The room needs refurbishing. There was a giant crack in the wall covered with caulk, black mildew along the base caulking, a broken bathroom light switch, pee droplets around the toilet, and a mini fridge that didn’t work. After the room was supposedly cleaned, they’d only made the bed using the same sheets and taken out the trash. They hadn’t cleaned the counter, shower, or toilet.

The front desk clerk let us check out and refunded our stay, which was the one positive. The bathroom door is a sliding barn door with a lightly frosted glass panel running its full length. It doesn’t lock, and you can see almost everything through it. That felt especially unsuitable for a woman traveling with her son. If privacy matters to you, don’t book this hotel.

The young man who checked us in was friendly, professional, and helpful. I also like the location in town and come to Tallahassee every year. Even so, I won’t stay here again. The suite layout is terrible: the bathroom faces the bed, and there’s a window in its door. Someone using the bathroom can light up the room and wake whoever is sleeping. Other things were broken too. Both doors at the ends of the hall were unusable, supposedly because of a lightning strike, and nobody had fixed them. If you go to your car in the rain, you’re locked out and have to walk around to the front. Breakfast was terrible as well. One of the worst SpringHill Suites I’ve stayed in.

The shower glass had water spots and what looked like soap scum from previous guests, and there was visible black mold along the bottom of the door glass and enclosure. The black marks on the tile floor hadn’t been cleaned either. After years of staying with Marriott, I feel the chain has gone downhill, not just this location. I’m seriously thinking about switching to a competitor. The stay was okay, but not great.
