La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Ft. Lauderdale Tamarac East

The room was okay, and the staff’s customer service was good. I didn’t realize breakfast ended at 9, and when I came down at 9:02 the doors were locked, though people were still inside. Since I was only two minutes late and nobody else was waiting behind me, I thought they could have let me in. My keys also kept failing, so I had to return to the front desk for help several times.

It’s a calm, quiet place, and the breakfast is classic, with something for vegetarians too. I’d suggest staying only if you have a car, since the neighborhood isn’t great for walking, though it isn’t noisy. The bed and bathroom were clean, and the bed was comfortable. The room is nice but a bit dark, and I wish the windows opened wider. There is air conditioning, but the room was too cold, so I switched the AC to heat. It started smoking, and I turned it off to be safe. The front desk staff are great and always help when the key stops working, which happens often. I’d avoid carrying the room key near electronic devices, since they seem to affect it.

The location was beautiful and I liked the room, but I really think the stay could have gone better. Before booking through Trip.com, I called to ask if a 6 a.m. early check-in was possible and was told it could be arranged for an extra fee. When I arrived around 6 a.m., Keisha at the front desk was extremely unwelcoming and nonchalant. I explained that I’d called ahead, but got no compassion, apology, or attempt to help. Only after I started calling other hotels did she check whether a room was available and manage to find one. After a long flight, that was very disappointing, especially on my first stay. If you have an early flight and your reservation doesn’t have an “early check in” note, go elsewhere. I’m less likely to return. Service: 1/10. Rooms: 8/10. Overall experience: 7/10.

I had an enjoyable 13-day, 12-night stay at La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Ft Lauderdale Tamarac East, 3800 W Commercial Blvd, Fort Lauderdale 33309. The room was clean and air conditioned, with a king-size bed, microwave, iron and ironing board, TV, desk, two bedside cabinets, and a good supply of towels and face towels. It also had a bath with a shower and body wash and hair shampoo, though I only used the body wash. If I needed the bed made, I just told the receptionist and she’d let the housekeeper know. Breakfast was okay, with fried, scrambled, omelette, or hard-boiled eggs, sausages or burgers, porridge, bagels, and brown bread for toast. The water in the urns wasn’t hot enough for me, but whenever I asked the kitchen staff for hot water, they gave it to me. Sometimes people made noise in the corridor, though it didn’t disturb my sleep. I was met by friendly, helpful staff: Kerly, Taisha (I’m not sure I spelled that right), Brenda, and Dwayne. There were others, but I can’t remember all their names.
