The freshly made breakfast was a lovely start to each day, and I enjoyed chatting with the other guests. The Hacienda del Sol is close to a main road, but once you’re back at the property, it’s very quiet. I was in Taos to visit my son, and I’d happily stay here again. The building is a huge, beautiful adobe house with character inside and out. I’m not sure how many units it has, though I know there are more than 10. The yard has a lovely mountain view, and I believe the original part was among the first homes built in Taos. It still feels modern and updated. I especially loved the Southwest Suite, which felt like a home of its own, with beautiful decor, lots of natural light, a little patio and private fenced yard, and a gorgeous wood-burning fireplace. I wanted to move right in.

We loved watching the starry sky from the outdoor hot tub. I wish we’d been told more about what was available onsite, though, including the need to reserve the tub and the extra logs for the fire. It would also be nice to have hot coffee earlier than breakfast. Our room was spacious and clean, more like a little house, and the wood-burning kiva gave it a nice local feel. The food and hospitality at breakfast were wonderful. This was a charming, quiet hidden gem, and I’m glad we chose it for our Taos visit.

Getting around from here was easy, whether we were exploring Taos or heading up to Taos Ski Resort. It made a great base for visiting both the town and the slopes. We felt cozy and welcome from the moment we arrived. The staff were so kind, and Corey was especially sweet and accommodating, making sure we had what we needed whether we were heading out early or taking a relaxed morning. Breakfast each day was delicious. Hacienda del Sol was a real gem during our visit to Taos, New Mexico, and I can’t recommend it enough.

I’d come back, and I hope these suggestions help the place keep its happy guests. The setting is lovely, with art, decor, and a great view. Breakfast was delicious, the staff friendly, and the robes and very hot hot tub were nice. I’d give it a 4.5 if I could. A 7:00 breakfast would help skiers a lot. The room itself was lovely, but the bathroom felt dingy, with moldy caulk around the tub, a loose sink faucet, and an old toilet with a comically low seat. There was an ice bucket but no glasses, so I ended up drinking water from a cupped hand at the sink. The hot tub sign-up system could use a rethink. Other guests were using it when I arrived for my reserved time, and I was happy to share, but the booking setup didn’t seem to work.

You’ll need to drive to places like the Pueblo, the Plaza, and the Milicent Rogers museum, though they’re relatively short trips. The property itself is charming throughout, with beautiful rooms full of art, including sculptures tucked into wall niches and lovely tile around the light switches and bathroom sinks. There’s a central garden with mountain views, and breakfast in the art-filled dining room was great. Definitely recommend!
