The rates seemed quite high, especially since I understood them to cover the amenities. When I asked whether there could be an adjustment or some accommodation, I was told the rate would remain the same. Two days before my trip, after eight months of looking forward to it, I sadly canceled. I explained that closures should be disclosed in advance, since guests may expect the full experience and otherwise only find out when they arrive. The reply was just "ok," with no apology or acknowledgment of my concern. I'd booked a Halloween stay back in March at Castle Hotel & Spa, hoping to enjoy its magical atmosphere near Sleepy Hollow. I live nearby and had always thought of it as an ideal fall getaway, so I saved it for that weekend. Then, after seeing recent reviews, I learned two days before arrival that the spa and restaurant were closed, along with atmospheric features like the fire pit and outdoor lights at night. For a property promoted as a spa, it was surprising to find the spa had been closed for most of 2024, with no clear reopening date. That information wasn't in the long message sent before arrival either. The restaurant was closed too, leaving much of what makes the place special unavailable. The only closure information clearly mentioned was the outdoor pool's opening and closing dates. It's a shame a place with so much potential isn't more upfront with guests.

The hotel looks gorgeous from outside, sits in a nice location, and had some lovely Halloween decorations when we visited last year. But the spa and restaurant were closed, and I was still charged a facility fee. We paid $900 for two nights, and it was NOT worth it. Our large suite at the very top was horrible and really dated. Bugs were all over the ceiling. The front desk wouldn't come look, saying they were ladybugs. The towel rack was coming off the wall, and there were stains on the floor. I usually wouldn't mind an old room or a few broken things, but the bugs and poor service were the problem. Staff said they couldn't reduce the bill or cancel the second night. I asked to speak with management or have someone call after we left, but nobody ever contacted me. If you raise a concern, you likely won't hear back.

The mattress was comfortable and the garden was pleasant, but there were plenty of things that need attention. The pool, spa, and restaurant were all closed, with no discount offered. We couldn't come, and the hotel made no gesture either. Our room's chair wobbled so much we didn't dare sit on it, and the bed had sheets with holes. No one offered to bring our luggage to the room. The town is a 30-minute walk along the road, which has no sidewalk. Meetings were held at the property with meals, even though the catering service was closed, which didn't make much sense. Breakfast was basic: melon, bagels, butter, jam, cheese spread, cereal bars, Greek yogurt, muffins, apples, bananas, and instant oats. Sometimes, if we were lucky, there was pineapple too.

The castle is beautiful, decorated nicely, and has a luxurious feel. I had the Premier King, which was much more spacious than I expected, and the rooms overall are large and elegant. The location was a favorite: somewhat tucked away from White Plains' main road, unlike most nearby hotels, but still close to restaurants and other amenities. Service was amazing overall, with one small hiccup after a shift change. I had left something behind and asked the front desk person to pass a message to my room. It took a bit of back and forth before he did it. If you're hoping to impress someone special, I highly recommend the hotel. The spa opens in spring, and you can make arrangements to use it then. You definitely won't regret it. Thank me later.

We spent two lovely nights in a quiet setting surrounded by beautiful gardens. The staff were friendly and helpful, and it's a good replica of the castles I often saw growing up in England. The bed was huge, though the pillows were too soft and could use replacing. Breakfast was okay, and since it was included, there's not much to complain about. We also enjoyed a swim and some time relaxing in the jacuzzi. They provide nice Molton Brown shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and shower gel.
