Gilbert's Resort

The private beach was beautiful, quiet, and a great place to catch the sunset, so don’t miss it. The bars had a band, and the food was really good for a good price. There’s also a heated pool, and another company nearby rents boats and jet skis. All the employees were super nice. We especially enjoyed chatting with the breakfast attendant from Rusia and the person in charge of security and the parking lot. Breakfast is included, but it’s simple: cereal, bagels, cream cheese, yogurt, juice, and real espresso made by the wonderful breakfast attendant from Rusia. There are no hot options. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a nice, clean bathroom and plenty of towels. We stayed on the second floor and had an awesome view of the water. Housekeeping came daily and changed the sheets after two nights. There’s a large parking lot and separate parking for the Tiki Bar. The room had two queen beds, which was perfect for a couple, though I don’t think four people would fit comfortably. We stopped for three nights on our way to Key West. If you arrive at night, wait until the next day, when everything will be awesome. It’s a nice place to spend a few nights, with lodging, breakfast, pool, beach, and beach bar all in one place.

The rooms have lovely, bright views, and the hotel was very clean. Housekeeping did a great job and provided good service. Everything is right there, including a very good restaurant with tasty food and a nice breakfast. The breakfast attendants were professional. We loved the pool, the beach, and the cabana where you can relax and watch the sunset. We booked this cute hotel and it exceeded our expectations. We loved it and will be back!

Our room was bright and cheerful, mostly up to date, and the pool was decent. The tiki bar was very nice. But construction woke us at 6:30 am directly beneath our room, with no warning. The water had been shut off, so we couldn’t use our room’s toilet or shower before checkout. We had to use the bathroom by the breakfast area, where the continental breakfast was very sad. When we complained about not being told about the construction, staff said there was nothing they could do and that our stay had mostly been good. Our adult son was doing a once-in-a-lifetime bike ride from Key Largo to Key West in a single day, and it would have been nice to send him off after a full night’s sleep. Customer service was extremely poor, and they never replied to my emails. Booking.com responded and helped us, but I can’t say the same for Gilbert's or its poorly trained desk staff.

The location was great, and the food was okay, but it wasn’t very kid or baby friendly. A crew member didn’t take into account how hard it was to get seated with a baby in a stroller. The ideal table and seating area for a family with a stroller was blocked off just 10 feet from the crowded, cramped open areas, so we had to leave.
