Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Tell City by IHG

The beds were genuinely comfortable, and the mattresses deserve 5 stars. Everything else made me want to check the Ramada Inn in Tell City before returning to this Holiday Inn. The building smelled musty on entry, and the elevator was filthy, with smashed Doritos on the mat and dirty stainless steel that looked like it hadn't been cleaned or polished. I told the young woman at the desk, and she turned to the cleaning lady, who just stared blankly at me. The manager responsible for housekeeping isn't doing the job. This hotel needs a deep clean. The bathroom sink plug was broken, the coffee maker didn't work, and the duvet cover needed washing.

I've stayed at plenty of hotels, but I've never encountered a smell like this one. It was wet and moldy, almost as if the whole building had been underwater for 3 years and drained 2 weeks ago. The odor was terrible and made me nauseous. Not good.

We arrived late Friday night, and the toilet in our first room wouldn't flush while the shower wouldn't drain, so we switched rooms. The second room was okay, though the shower still drained poorly. There is definitely a drainage issue here. I hardly ever use a microwave, but needed to heat my coffee and found it very dirty, like it hadn't been cleaned at all. I hope housekeeping knows the microwaves need cleaning. The rooms could use some updating. I added photos.

We came all the way from Australia for a family member's funeral, and the staff looked after us from check-in until we left 3 days later. A helpful gentleman at the front desk got us moved to another room because the sofa bed wasn't comfortable. We were awake very early with jet lag, and Kaylah on the night shift was friendly and helped us with the coffee machine. Breakfast had a good range of options, too. We'd stay at the Holiday Inn again if we return to Tell City. Thank you.
