Ramada By Wyndham Tempe at Arizona Mills Mall

The location is great, close to Arizona Mills Mall and right off I-10 and Baseline. The place used to be a Ramada, and the rooms felt tired and worn. Our room had no tissues, and the TV cabinet, dresser, and fridge were old. The shower was clean, but the old faucet and fixtures didn’t work well. It was hard to get the shower going, and the water was extremely hot and difficult to cool down. It was okay for the price, but not great.

I needed a U-Haul urgently and had never rented one before, so I was already nervous. The front desk associate made me feel unwelcome and stupid. He tried to charge a higher deposit than I’d been quoted, and didn’t give me the dolly I had paid extra for. His questions were hard for me to understand and made me anxious about why I was renting the truck. The whole interaction felt uncomfortable. When I was trying to check in, he got irritated and said I’d have to leave if I couldn’t figure it out within a few minutes. I did manage to sort it out, but still had no dolly. I made sure to return the truck early and did what I needed to do, including filling the tank more than it had been and sweeping the back. I strongly urge people to find a more reputable place to rent U-Haul trucks. The first person you deal with leaves a lasting impression. I’ve never felt so small. Thank you.

The staff were nice, but a lot was wrong with the room. The shower curtain rod was broken when we arrived, there was no iron, the TV stand drawer was broken, and the mini fridge didn’t work at all. For over $100 a night, I expected things to work and the room to be presentable. Breakfast was basically nonexistent, just a plastic bin of snacks. I had my kids with me. Pay a little more per night for a nicer hotel that actually serves breakfast. We went for the weekend, and I won’t stay here again.

The staff were friendly, though it seemed like many or most were still training. The location was reasonably close to several baseball complexes, with easy highway access. There was a lovely little league park behind the hotel, where it was a joy to see kids playing. The Christie's out front wasn’t desirable. I think the place may be under new ownership, and things don’t feel quite together yet. Nothing would necessarily stop me from staying again, but they need to step it up. The security latch looked like it had been put back with plastic wall mounts, which didn’t seem professional or secure. There was corrosion on the shower curtain rod, and the bathtub fixtures needed servicing. Soap in the shower was unwrapped, or maybe left by the last guest, so I didn’t use it. The furniture had seen better days, including a stained-looking cover on the chair. Half the buttons were ripped off the phone. Each issue on its own was minor, but together they made the room feel unwelcoming. Expedia’s listing mentioned breakfast, but the lobby sign had a taped “LIMITED” message before “breakfast.” We never saw breakfast, though we came down well before normal breakfast hours ended, just not super early.
