Sonesta Select Tempe Downtown

The staff really made the stay worthwhile. Everyone was friendly and pleasant, and whenever I needed something they listened and did their best to help. The location is about as good as it gets, with a park a short walk away and the fun spots and food on the main strip just a block away. I stayed a little over 14 days. The room took some getting used to because it seemed a bit dated and dark. The AC blew right onto the bed, making it too cold or too hot for me, though that’s personal preference. I’m also not a fan of having the bathroom light switch outside the bathroom, but it is what it is.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff generally friendly, and the lobby cozy. There’s onsite security, and the location is very convenient. I stayed again two days later, and if I came back to Tempe, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. The reason for four stars was the public restroom. I went in when I arrived and found a small but graphic, unsightly mess. I told the staff while checking in, but the clerk rolled her eyes and didn’t seem concerned. I checked several hours later, and it still hadn’t been cleaned. I let the desk clerk on duty know, and she looked mortified, apologized that it had been left there, and took care of it immediately. I wish I’d gotten her name. She was young and very friendly.

The evening staff were friendly and informative, and the location is decent, about 13 minutes from the airport. The morning staff didn’t seem as friendly, and acted personally offended when I asked for a receipt. The room was a good size, and the balcony was a nice place to finish working. The pillows and blankets were decent, but the bed was incredibly hard. I’m no princess and the pea, but I woke up with sore ribs and achy shoulders. It had no give and somehow felt worse as the night went on. The shower was awful too. The pressure was like watering an indoor plant, just a weak drip, so it took forever to wash and rinse my hair. It was loud as well. I could hear people walking, talking, and what sounded like stomping down the stairs.

A very clean place in a safe area, close to places to eat and shop. The amenities are great, and there’s a nice little gym. Parking costs $15 per night, though they might waive the fee if it isn’t too booked. Overall, a really nice stay!
