Jovi from maintenance clearly cares about the property. I often see him cleaning the hallways, picking up litter, and keeping things looking nice. It’s good to see him putting in consistent effort to keep the place clean and well maintained, and to make the community better for everyone.
Parking is plentiful, and Brandon was the one bright spot for me. He genuinely tries to help residents, and I appreciate that. But I’ve just moved out of a loft-style apartment here, and the rest of the experience was not good. What looked affordable at first became as expensive as, or more than, better-managed apartments once amenity and service fees were added. My loft was steps from the trash room, but I still had to pay a valet trash fee, even though the unit didn’t have a valet trash can. German roaches were a problem from day one. Pest control was unreliable: sometimes they marked a visit when nobody had come, and when someone did show up, they sprayed a mystery liquid that didn’t work. We spent over $100 of our own money on roach products, and it still took months to get the problem under control. The manager didn’t answer emails, and it was nearly impossible to get anyone on the phone. I can’t say the same as I did about Brandon for the manager or the rest of the staff. I also found the place unsafe. Many doors didn’t lock properly, so homeless individuals got inside and slept in the stairwells. There were no security cameras in the sketchy halls or garages. Water shutoffs for “maintenance” happened frequently and became a regular disruption. If you can avoid signing here, I strongly recommend looking at the newly built apartments across the street. Living here was an experience, but not a good one.
The maintenance guys were respectful and responsive, and clearly doing their best under poor leadership and a broken system. But living here was one of my worst housing experiences, and I’d strongly caution anyone, especially students, against signing a lease. The tour doesn’t show what day-to-day life is like, and for the price there are lots of better options in Tempe. Despite marketing toward students, the property doesn’t feel safe. Dog waste is left around, trash piles up in the hallways when valet service is inconsistent, and the entrances, halls, and stairwells regularly smell of dog urine and marijuana. Noise is constant. You can hear everything above and on either side, along with dogs barking through the night, and management doesn’t enforce anything. That makes it hard to get peace and quiet for schoolwork. Getting into the building without a key fob is laughably easy because several parking garage doors don’t lock properly. I wouldn’t want anyone I care about to live here. And before anyone replies that weekly cleanup reminders are sent or that they try to keep the place clean, the screenshot included with my review shows the last message from anyone was in January of this year.
My family loves living here, and I’ve personally never seen or heard of any issues. The complex is beautiful and clean, and the on-site management and maintenance team check in with residents. Maintenance problems get resolved within two days, and the team is kind and takes pride in the buildings. Shakeelah Dawan and Gavin Munroe in the front office were a huge help while I prepared my documents and information over several weeks. We had many phone calls, and they were extremely attentive and made sure I could move in. They know their stuff, are kind, and are always available. If you want to move here, they’ll make it happen. There’s plenty to use when entertaining family or friends: workspaces in the lobby, a gym, a pool, and basketball. Bora Bora recently opened inside the building, stays open late, and serves breakfast, sweet treats, and sandwiches. It’s next to a tea shop, and markets are within walking distance. Parking is great if you have a car, with good transit options too.
Finding a new home is stressful, so I appreciated how knowledgeable Shakeelah was about the property. She was kind and professional from the moment I came in. Kudos to The Access for having someone at the front with such great customer service. I’ll definitely recommend the place to family and friends!
