The place seems to have gone downhill since the old owner sold it, which is a shame given the money-making location. Service was basically nonexistent, yet they add 20% gratuity to the bill. The kitchen guy came out looking frustrated because no one was bringing food after he'd rung his bell 16-20 times. The food was a mess. The potato salad was hot roasted potatoes with bouillon seasoning, the “Jägerschnitzel” was a strongly smelly, pre-breaded cutlet topped with a cold scoop of mushrooms, and the “Spätzle” were KRAFT-size noodles. I had to spit out the red cabbage. The cheese fondue tasted like warmed-up Cheese-Whizz and was inedible. Burgers were out of tomatoes, the patties seemed like they came from Costco, and they were greasy and unseasoned. The giant pretzel was okay, though too greasy. The wings seemed like yesterday's leftovers, fried again. I got severe stomach cramps that evening after lunch here and spent the next day in the bathroom throwing up multiple times. You might think Bavarian food is hard to mess up. Apparently not. Nothing tasted authentic, or even like a decent attempt at following a recipe. The seasoning was either missing or wildly overdone.

The rooms have seen better decades, and the place is old and quirky, with all the modernity of wooden skis. Still, the ski-in/ski-out access and decent fondue do the job. What you're paying for is that 30-second walk to the Tram, not the interior design.

The rest of dinner was good and the service was excellent, but we came specifically for the fondue and it was such a letdown. It was basically warm, plain queso, with the wrong color and consistency and no flavor. They should look up a classic French recipe and try that.

We spent a lot to stay here for five nights, and our car got towed from the hotel lot on checkout day. When we arrived, we were told we could park there for the whole stay. No one mentioned an upcoming music festival or that we had to move the car the night before checkout. It was towed one lot over from the hotel, and getting the boot removed from the rental cost us $350. I asked the front desk if they could do anything, and they said no, I'd have to wait for the general manager, who wouldn't be available until later that day. I would have stayed to speak with them, but then we'd have missed our flight home. Housekeeping only cleaned our room once. We never got fresh towels, coffee pods, or more toiletries. The customer service was horrible. I'd never stay here again.

The heated pool, big spa area, and sauna were lovely after a day out exploring the mountains. Alpenhof Lodge has a quiet, cozy feel, like a Swiss mountain retreat from another time. The alpine decor and old-world character make it feel a lot more special than a generic chain hotel. It's a hidden gem in Teton Village, and we'd definitely come back.
