Residence Inn by Marriott Texarkana

I keep coming back here for work trips to Texarkana. The staff are always kind, and the hotel has been clean every time. Rooms have plenty of space to work and cook, with a roomy kitchen area. It’s especially handy for stays of more than a few nights, and restaurants and grocery stores are all within a five-minute drive.

We slept really well here. The bed was comfortable, the shower had good pressure and plenty of room, and the lobby had a big breakfast area plus a nice spot to sit and hang out. There were charging ports around, the hallways felt modern and were well lit, and the elevators were spacious and quick, even if their bell sounds a bit clunky at each floor. The room also felt nicer and more updated than other Residence Inn properties I’ve seen. It’s right off I-30, which was convenient, but we didn’t hear traffic. We had a good dinner at the Longhorn Steakhouse across the parking lot. A couple of room details could use attention: the bathroom door scrapes the tile and is hard to open or close, so using it at night would probably wake your partner. There was some peeling paint above the mirror, and neither outlet built into the bedside clock worked. Even with those issues, I’d stay again.

The room was lovely, breakfast was good, and the front desk staff were wonderful during my overnight stop on a long drive. But housekeeping banged on my door and jolted me awake on checkout morning to ask if I wanted service. That wasn’t acceptable. There are no do not disturb signs, though I can’t see why I’d need service the day I’m leaving. I got no rest and left exhausted.

We had two suites for four of us, and even for only a few nights, the stay felt worth it. There were a few minor issues, but nothing that spoiled things. We played cards in the lobby while other guests were out playing Jenga and Connect Four. There’s a fire pit, some grills and tables, and we could see people using the indoor pool. The hotel also has a gym, though cards won out for us. We walked down the hill to Target and got around town easily by car. We’d never stayed at a Residence Inn before, but we’d look for one on future trips. I’d recommend it.
