The Woodlands Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton

Feb 2026. It felt like we had this beautiful resort to ourselves. The weather was okay, and there’s so much here it’s hard to list it all. The pool, jacuzzi, river, and fishable lakes and ponds were amazing, and they even have an arcade. Pets are welcome, and the staff were amazing with top-notch room service. It’s about 30 minutes from the airport. Great if you’re into golf, corporate amenities, or conference halls, or just want a family getaway. Highly recommend if you’re visiting Houston.

I was here for four nights over Christmas. The lights and trees made everything festive, and I’ll come back. I’m too old to get in the pool, but still enjoyed the fountains and the area around them. There’s a coffee station in the front lobby in the mornings. Our suite had two bathrooms, and the master bathroom was oversized, with a shower roomy enough for two. Staff brought a shower chair for my physical challenge. It’s a very wooded resort, but everything is kept blown clear. Doors and carpets were clean too. You see housekeeping and maintenance working all the time, which is a good sign.

Kristen made the good half of our first stay really good. She kindly arranged a complimentary upgrade and a 1pm late checkout, so we felt valued as Diamond members. We’d requested both through the app before driving from Austin for a late business dinner. Since it was our first time and we were tired after the drive and meeting, we wanted more time to enjoy the room. I’m glad to recognize Kristen for such gracious service. The other half of the experience was upsetting. We’d requested a complimentary upgrade through the app, and Tarwanda at the front desk replied that nothing was available and to check in person when we arrived. We understood it depended on availability, but the reply could have been more courteous and empathetic. The next morning, we called to confirm our late 1pm checkout. Tarwanda said she couldn’t see it and that they weren’t giving late checkouts that day. When she realized we had a complimentary upgrade, she added that we weren’t supposed to have either the upgrade or late checkout. There was no apology or empathy, and we didn’t feel valued as Diamond members. It makes me wonder how non-Diamond guests are treated. Luckily, we’d learned from past experiences to screenshot important information. I pointed out that the app notes or chat should show the upgrade and late checkout, but she said she saw nothing. Frustrated, I told her I had a screenshot and asked for a manager or someone else. Suddenly, she could see the late checkout. It felt like she was making things difficult and showed no ability to offer the customer service you’d expect at a hotel front desk. That alone would have made this a 1, if not a 0. We feel bad that Kristen’s excellent service was followed by this. As they say, you’re only as good as your weakest link. We like the hotel’s location, features, and amenities. We’re from Austin and visit Houston, especially the Woodlands, 1-3 times monthly, mostly for business and sometimes to see family. We try a lot of Hilton hotels in the area and have our favorites. Even with the good first half, the rest left us anxious about returning. This could have been a 5, but it could also have been a 1.

It’s a cute, quiet place if all you want to do is nothing, but several things were annoying enough that I probably won’t return. I booked a king room with a balcony on the adult floor. At check-in, they said they were overbooked. I could have an adult-floor room without a balcony, or keep the balcony on another floor. Since it was Thanksgiving weekend and there were kids everywhere, I chose the adult floor. I was also told a balcony room on another floor would mean losing access to the adult lounge, which matters later. They offered free breakfast for the inconvenience, so fine. I love playing pool, and the pool table was another reason I booked here. When I asked where it was, staff said it had flooded. They couldn’t help that, but it was still frustrating. Then I went to the adult lounge and saw two kids there. They weren’t disruptive, so I didn’t complain or get their family in trouble. But I’d chosen the adult floor after being told I couldn’t use the lounge if I took a balcony room elsewhere. I don’t have kids, and it’s the principle of the thing. If breakfast hadn’t been free, I wouldn’t have paid for it. The service was terrible. Staff seemed overwhelmed and all over the place, and we waited 30+ minutes despite plenty of empty tables. I don’t know what was happening behind the scenes, but they seem to need more help. It was alright enough that I’m not complaining, but bad enough that I won’t come back.
