The room was nicely set up with a microwave, refrigerator, and sink, and I had no cleanliness issues. The problem came after checkout, when I was charged a $250 “smoking fee.” I didn’t smoke in the room or bathroom at all. There were no reports of smoke during my stay, and if there had been smoke in the room and hallways, I’d expect nearby guests to notice and complain. I also had my three-month-old child with me the whole time, which makes the accusation especially disturbing. Manager Helen acknowledged my baby was there and said she found the soiled diapers I’d put in the room’s trash cans, but refused to remove the fee. It bothers me to know housekeeping goes through the trash. I’m not worried about the charge now, though. A trustworthy banking company will have it removed, and I can get back to having a good week.

Downtown Thomasville is a cute, walkable area, just a quick five-minute drive from this hotel. Our room was clean, breakfast was good, and the kind man who checked us in was great. Everything was fantastic except the pool, which was dirty, full of bugs, and had a funky smell.

The room itself was nice and the staff were very good, but I didn’t get the quiet night of sleep I wanted. Road noise came through all night because the hotel is so close to a major road, and we could hear people upstairs stomping around from a little after midnight until about 5 a.m. on both nights. The floors don’t block much sound. Breakfast was very weak. They were out of boiled eggs, and the yogurt machine wasn’t working, so we paid for breakfast at IHOP on our second morning. One elevator was out of service, and we eventually took the stairs rather than wait for the only working one. The wall thermostat in the bedroom didn’t work; you have to control the temperature from the unit. They should explain that at check-in or remove the thermostat.

The staff have been really nice every time I’ve stayed, but the hotel’s condition has gone downhill fast. It’s only been open about six or seven months, yet the hallway carpet is stained and filthy, the tile floors always look dirty, and the shower pans are already heavily stained. They need to fumigate too. If it looks this rough now, I can’t imagine how it’ll look a year from now.
