The pool was awful: dirty, muddy all over, with gum and a disgusting used bandage in the water. Some lights in the pool and spa area didn't work, and the pool ladder felt loose and flimsy. We paid about $120 for my husband, toddler, and me at the Sleep Inn in Thornton, next to two big-name hotels, and were extremely disappointed. I'd have been better off at the Motel 6 down the highway for less, or the Ramada for about the same price and more comfort. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I'm disgusted with myself for paying instead of turning around. Check-in took forever, though the staff were friendly. An employee sitting on a computer in the lobby seemed unprofessional, whether on break or not. In our room, the AC lagged and didn't cool well. One wall had a terrible patch job, and the bathroom door looked half-painted and had no handle or lock, a real problem with a toddler. The sink faucet was set too far back to get our hands under it. The iron had “This iron was stolen from Sleep Inn Denver” written in Sharpie on both sides. The shower had very low pressure and only partly worked. There was no wireless internet as advertised, just a purple DSL cord in a drawer. Carpet peeled away from the wall, a bandage held the remote's back on, and the trash can had a huge Hefty bag instead of a properly sized liner. At checkout the man didn't look at me, ask how the stay was, or smile. Two employees were taking what looked like a break in the lobby, though I know there's an employee lounge near the pool.

I've stayed at hundreds of motels and hotels across America, from Radisson and Hyatt at the high end to the now-defunct El Pueblo in Flagstaff. For anyone on a budget who just needs a clean room for the night and doesn't need lots of entertainment, I'd call this a very good choice. It's a well-maintained older hotel at the edge of a shopping center and freeway. Keeping a place spotless there is a lot to ask. Older isn't bad, I'm older than I used to be. The staff were friendly, answered our questions right away, and handled our requests. Our room was clean, and there was a pool, spa, laundry, decent breakfast, and very fast Wi-Fi. If you don't want to pay for a room with a Franklin and change, you're probably going to get an older hotel. Entropy is relentless, children, boundary law of our continuum.

I checked in at the Sleep Inn in Thornton at 10:30pm Friday, June 8, after landing in Denver, and paid $110 cash. The desk clerk asked for a deposit, so I gave him my debit card. I left at 5:30am on the 9th. The room was okay, but eight days later my bank sent a letter saying my account was overdrawn. I found another $110 charge from the hotel. Three different people who called themselves the general manager said they'd look into it and get back to me. After waiting a week, I contacted Choice Hotels, which lists it as a Sleep Inn. They said they couldn't help because billing is handled by the hotel, and didn't seem surprised. When I called the hotel again, someone else said I'd stayed another night, so they charged my debit card. I live in Arkansas and had only been in Colorado to buy a Craigslist car and drive it home. I was home Sunday. They even claimed I'd left my “slippers” in the room. I'm 31 and don't own any slippers. I brought one shirt, one pair of pants, and underwear. Reading the other reviews makes this sound like a recurring problem. I'm filing identity theft charges against the property owners because they used my debit card without my signature, PIN, or permission. Stay away or you could get screwed. Please read the reviews first. This hotel carries the Choice Hotels and Sleep Inn names, but neither Sleep Inn nor Choice Hotels can help if this happens to you.

My husband and son travel around the country for work and stayed at the Thornton Sleep Inn from 8/12 to 8/17. Afterward they flew to California and Wichita. The following week, my son's card, while he was in California, was declined. There were four charges and two more pending for extra nights at this hotel. The hotel said someone from another room had called to say my son needed to stay longer. That wasn't true. They hadn't asked for ID or a card, just taken a phone call from unknown people. We called the police in Thornton and had those people arrested; the officer told the hotel to refund all the charges, but they haven't. We contacted Choice as Elite Diamond members, and they filed a complaint requiring the hotel to fix it within 72 hours. It still hasn't, and another charge came through today while we were at the bank with the card in our hand. What a scam. They won't talk to you and hang up. The “manager,” TK, won't even give his legal name. We're still fighting this. Do not stay here.

A bargain rate comes with a bargain environment here, and I won't stay again. There were lots of complaints in the lobby, no bath towels in the rooms, clean sheets but dirty floors, and equipment in disrepair. The staff seemed to be multitasking across the board. Definitely run on a budget.
