The hotel was nice, my room was clean, and the check-in staff were friendly and helpful. But the pool was closed for maintenance, and I wish I'd been told when booking. A warning or lower price would have been fair since some people look forward to using it on vacation. My room door also wouldn't latch or lock. Luckily I noticed right away, before unpacking, and they moved me to another room without any hassle. The ice machines weren't working on any of the three floors either. That's not a huge problem by itself, but it makes me wonder about the upkeep of other things. Not a bad stay, but I expect more from a Courtyard by Marriott.

The ice machine on my floor was broken, and staff said it had been out of order for a long time. The floor also smelled strongly of vinegar every time I got off the elevator. I still don't know whether that was connected to the machine or something else, but it was really off-putting. I asked for housekeeping during my five-day stay when I checked in, and never got it once. The room changes at the start were miserable. The first room had a loud, constant shower leak dripping onto a metal fixture, so I knew I couldn't sleep there for five nights. I went down for another key, waited the required 10 minutes for it to activate, and it still didn't work. Traveling alone, I had to haul all my heavy bags back to the lobby. The front desk clerk had disappeared, and when he finally came back, another worker escorted me up with his key. That didn't work either, so we all went back down again. I finally got a third room. It could have been cleaner, but I was relieved to have somewhere to put my bags. As a woman traveling alone, I felt frustrated, misled, and ultimately extremely unsafe. I wouldn't stay here again.

We came to town for the Bailey Zimmerman concert, but when I tried to check in, they said my reservation was for another date and that we'd missed check-in. I wasn't in town any other day, so I think the date switched while I was booking online. I asked them to move it to that day, but the man at the desk was rude and said I could pay for another room or speak to a manager. I couldn't afford another room and needed to talk to the manager. He said she wasn't available, didn't know when she'd be back, and mentioned she had gone to pick up her kids from school and stuff. He offered to book us a room, but said there was no guarantee I'd get the money back for the first one I'd paid for. I asked to change the dates so we could stay that night, which was all I needed, but they wouldn't help and were rude. We had to go eat and then to the concert, so I said I'd come back around 11 p.m. He said the manager wouldn't be there then either. I called customer service instead. They've since been in touch and said the manager here refuses to refund me, so I'm stuck paying for a room we never used. We drove home for three hours after the concert, which was miserable, because we couldn't afford another hotel. This place doesn't care about its customers or fixing problems.

We paid over $300 for two rooms and didn't get into them until about 8:30 p.m., even though we arrived around 7 after driving all day. They were switching out the computer stations, so they couldn't give us keys until then. Once we got into the rooms, we were more or less stuck there, even though we'd planned to go get food. The restaurant was closed, there were no housekeepers on site, and the pool was closed too. There wasn't anything free, either. The rooms were clean, but one bed had no mattress protector and a lamp in one room was held together with scotch tape. The location was okay, with several fast-food places and a Meijer right across the street. Still, it wasn't worth what I paid.

There's no complimentary breakfast or anything else with the room. No water, no milk, just tap water, one regular coffee and one decaf in the room, plus cheap body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. I basically live on the road, and this taught me a lesson. Marriott offers less for a higher price, so I won't stay at Marriott anywhere again. I think it's time to boycott.
