Holiday Inn Express & Suites Topeka North by IHG

The checkout was a mess: the clerk checked out the wrong guest, and I only caught it when she handed me the receipt. She also used curse words, which felt very unprofessional. The room itself was only surface-cleaned, with the floors swept but not mopped, and the bathroom tub and grout looked worn. There was just one ice machine, far from the rooms, too. The children put in the room above mine ran back and forth nonstop. Why put them over someone on a business trip? At 2 a.m., water leaked through the ceiling and splashed onto my face, so I had to pack everything and change rooms. They moved me from a king bed to a double, and offered no compensation until I asked. The staff’s behavior and the whole stay were very unprofessional.

We liked the room: it was spacious, with a king bed and a sitting area, and felt clean and comfortable. The bed was amazing, and it stayed quiet even though the hotel was busy. Breakfast was good too, with pancakes, cinnamon rolls, eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereal, yogurt, fruit, muffins, and good coffee. We hadn’t planned to stop for the night on our way home, but Tara greeted us so warmly and looked after us like a friend, making sure we had what we needed for an enjoyable stay. She was so nice that we stayed instead of driving straight through. Thanks, Tara, for making the night special.

Larissa was amazing with my team. Whenever we needed a hand, she came over with a smile and helped us out. The staff were great, and we enjoyed our stay.

We couldn’t sleep because of the noise from the people above us, who had a birthday party on the third floor. It started around 3 p.m. and went on nonstop until nearly 10 p.m., and it was so loud that we stayed in our room listening to it late into the night. My husband called reception twice; she said she would take care of it, but nothing seemed to change. When he called again, she said she had gone upstairs, but the noise kept going. I know quiet hours are posted as 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., but the hotel should handle noise complaints better when other guests are being disturbed. It was a horrible experience day and night. I wish I could upload the videos I took to show how loud it was.
