Baymont by Wyndham Traverse City

The front desk clerks were kind and accommodating, and the location is handy for the hospital and places to eat. One catch: GPS sent us about 20 minutes in the wrong direction, so we had to call for directions. We paid $75 a night and felt safe, but the hotel was old, poorly maintained, and felt dirty. Our room had cracked windows, torn drywall, missing tile, and no drain cover in the sink. The shower was dirty, the office chair had white stains that looked like salty boot marks, and the curtains hung over the heating and cooling unit, blocking the blower. They should change that curtain style. My hair dryer nearly caught fire and had to be replaced. The breakfast area looked promising, but there were no eggs and not many choices in the morning. For this price, expect the bare minimum, not a refreshed hotel. I’d look at the Hilton or another nearby place if cleanliness is a concern for you.

I don't usually write negative reviews, but I've never stayed anywhere as bad as this. I regret not checking the reviews before booking. The pool was falling apart, and my friend was hurt by glass in the water. There were also unattended children screaming while I was there. Inside, I found black mold in the bathroom, and the elevator, halls, and stairwells smelled strongly of mildew and trash. Whenever I left the room, I had to cover my nose and mouth. I knew booking here was a mistake as soon as I stepped into the elevator.

The bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable, and we had to buy room fresheners because the room smelled odd. There was a big gap between the curtain and the window, so parking lot lights shone in while we were trying to sleep. The cabinet bottom had water damage, and what looked like mold spores were growing on the bathroom ceiling. We were on the second floor, and the hallway toward our side smelled like steamed Brussels sprouts or possibly water damage. For what we paid for two nights, the stay was mediocre. My group agreed we wouldn't recommend this hotel or stay here again when we return to Traverse.

We came for a business trip that lasted more than a month, and I’d happily recommend this place. The rooms are on point, the cookies are freshly baked every day and ridiculously good, and Chris and Paul are incredible. Really, the whole staff made it feel like a home away from home.
