Donner Lake Inn

The grab-and-go breakfast made it easy to head out for the day, and that blueberry scone was delicious. I was happy with the room and its location too, plus check-in and check-out were both simple. It’s a special spot. I was traveling solo to Donner Lake and will be back.

We liked being near the lake and waking up among the trees, and it was an easy walk down to the water. There wasn’t a lake view, though. The owners may be friendly, but we never met them. The room was just fine, but really tiny. It had a double bunk bed and a queen, which took up so much space that there was room for either kids or luggage, not both. The breakfast counter faced a wall only 18" away, and the bathroom was tiny too, with a toilet and the smallest usable plastic shower box you can imagine. Breakfast was premade burritos, chocolate croissants, and coffee from a push-button machine. Set your expectations accordingly and you’ll be fine.

The snow piled up during our stay, but they kept clearing it as best they could and we had no trouble getting in or out. We stayed in the Moose Crossing room, a cozy little cabin with just enough space and comfortable accommodations. The sleigh bed and gas fire kept us warm, and the hot tub was wonderfully relaxing. Paul and Mindy made us feel cared for and welcome, almost like family. They know the area well, and their suggestions for activities and places to eat worked out great for us. Breakfast was delicious, and we had a lot of fun sharing an afternoon snack with them and the other guests. We’d absolutely come back if we’re in the area again.

We really appreciated the grab-and-go breakfast, and the customer service was superb. I’d definitely recommend staying here and would come back!
