After a three-day bicycle event, my husband and I needed somewhere quiet, and Cactus Cove, just outside Tucson, was perfect. I was sore, so the jetted tub in our room felt like heaven. The bath came with high-end shampoo and body wash, and there was also a double shower and an outdoor shower on our private enclosed patio. Sally, the owner, upgraded us to the honeymoon suite, the Barrel Room. It was spacious and decorated with real care. You could tell Sally had put a lot of herself into it. She also left fresh-baked brownies in the room while we were out, such a lovely surprise. Both breakfasts were very good. The first was huevo ranchero and baked grapefruit, made by Sally’s housekeeper, and I loved both. The next morning Sally took us to Paris, as she’s been there about 100 times, with a cheese omelet and a homemade croissant. It was crisp outside and chewy in the middle, just how a croissant should be. The food was delicious, and Sally had thoughtfully set the table beneath the beautiful Ramada. If you want to get away from everyday life, feel welcome and pampered, and enjoy amazing views, check out Cactus Cove. You won’t be disappointed.

We felt surrounded by the natural beauty of the Sonora desert on the three-acre property. It’s at the edge of town, by the base of the Mt. Lemmon highway, so restaurants and the mountains for hiking were easy to get to. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious, and Sally was a wonderful host and a truly interesting person. Every morning she made a fresh, delicious, filling breakfast to fuel our adventures. We already miss her afternoon cookies and cupcakes, and would definitely stay again.

My husband and I chose Cactus Cove for our 25th anniversary, and we loved the Cactus Barrel Room. Sally greeted us warmly, showed us around her home, then sat us in the patio area with refreshments and cupcakes. She shared a little of her history there, gave us restaurant suggestions with menus and a free appetizer coupon, and offered ideas for things to do nearby. Breakfast each day felt like a gourmet experience. Sally is conscientious about giving her guests the best experience possible. We’ll be back.

We’ll always remember our stay at Cactus Cove, and can’t think of a thing we’d change. It feels remote, but we could easily get to whatever we wanted, including hiking and restaurants. Sally, the owner, is a classy, unique and delightful host. Her property, the care she puts into it, and even the place settings were all beautifully done, if not perfect. We’re very grateful.

The setting is a big part of what made Cactus Cove such a good way to experience Tucson. From the B&B we could see the Catalina Mountains, and the desert gardens were full of life, from hummingbirds to unusual cacti. The gardens seemed thoughtfully planned and cared for, and felt like an oasis. We enjoyed sitting down to a warm gourmet breakfast each morning on the beautiful patio, prepared by Sally and Esther. We also looked forward to getting to know Sally over breakfast. Her warmth, thoughtfulness, worldly conversation and good humor became a highlight of the trip. With only three rooms and serious procedures in place, we had no concerns about COVID and could enjoy our getaway. We’d love to return.
