The rooms were decent, the air conditioning worked, and the courtyard looked lovely. Still, I'd steer clear. We had a bad experience with customer service, and I wouldn't recommend the food either. At check-in, the desk asked for a card deposit and clearly said nothing would be charged because we'd already paid through booking.com. When I asked about adding breakfast to the reservation, the woman said “nobody has ever asked that before” and wouldn't check whether it was possible. After leaving reception, we saw a charge from the hotel that was higher than the booking.com fee. Another receptionist dismissed what had happened, said it wasn't a double charge, and told us we'd automatically be refunded while the hotel kept an extra $40 for taxes. The manager confirmed we had been charged twice by mistake, and there shouldn't have been any extra charges or fees. We were told the money would be returned, but after three business days it still hadn't arrived, and we weren't sure it ever would. You can pay for the food on the spot, but when I asked about gluten-free options, the receptionist asked what kind of GF I was, as if whether I could eat cheese were relevant. Cheese isn't a gluten allergen. I regret confirming that I'd eaten gluten at this hotel, despite clearly explaining what I can eat and what counts as an allergen.

I'm a Gold Elite member, and we just left. The hotel was clean and conveniently located, but the beds were hard as rocks and we didn't get bottled water. Those weren't even the main problems. The shower dripped onto the metal plate and drain all night, keeping us awake. It took two of us to turn it on, and then ages to get the water warmer. At checkout, the front desk didn't seem very concerned. I'd been ready to let it go, but breakfast we'd paid for wasn't available. It was right around 10, with no posted or stated closing time, and we couldn't even get coffee. The clerk said we'd have to contact the manager and couldn't do anything herself. We left tired, without a decent shower or the breakfast and coffee we paid for. I travel a lot and switched back to Marriott from Hilton last year; I may need to rethink that decision.

The room was nice, though the mattress felt too firm and stiff for me to get a fully restful sleep. I know beds work differently for different people, but this ultra-firm one wasn't comfortable for me. The location was very good, central to Southlake, Grapevine, and Westlake. Bar service was very good, and I enjoyed meeting some regulars there. Check-in felt cold given my Platinum for Life status, and when I followed up on issues I'd mentioned, the front desk just stared blankly. That part gets one star; the bar gets four, so I'd average that to 2.5 and round up to three. There were loads of parking spaces, so the $5-per-night charge felt completely unnecessary.

The place was very clean and the staff were amazing, but the old layout made it uncomfortable by today's standards. The bathroom was narrow and had no fan, so everyone in the room had to deal with whatever happened in the toilet or shower. The sink area for getting ready was tiny and dark. The mattress felt like concrete, and we slept terribly. By morning the ventilation had left all of us so stuffed up that we couldn't wait to leave. I'm a Marriott snob and stay at Marriott properties whenever I can. These older Courtyards need to be torn down and replaced.

We had a nice stay in a quiet, convenient hotel. The room's layout was odd, and the pillows were awful, full of fake fluff and basically just air. We stopped at a local store to buy a couple so we could sleep comfortably for the remaining few nights.
