I had a lovely stay at Double Tree by Hilton in Downtown Tucson. The staff understood the problems I'd had with my previously booked hotel and let me securely store my carry-on the day before check-in. My room was spacious, well equipped, and bright with morning light, and complimentary bottled water was in the fridge. Breakfast had fresh, delicious food, with both a buffet selection and an a-la-carte menu. The location worked well too: the nearest tram station is about five minutes away, and the tram is free in Tucson. Downtown and Historic Fourth Avenue are also walkable.

Update: my elderly mother just told me there was a throw-up stain on the floor that I hadn't noticed. One star. This was a tepid stay. The parking was uncovered, unpatrolled, and had no liability coverage. There was a strange sewage smell on the second floor and gnats near the drain, though the room was otherwise clean. The materials and finish felt mid-range and poorly done. The room custodians were very kind, but the host staff kept mentioning breakfast, which wasn't complimentary. Everything shuts down at 2200, even though there's a bar and pool. The pool area is small but has nice views. Road construction was everywhere. WiFi wasn't free unless you signed up for their so-called free membership and data program. It felt like a corporate cash grab, and nowhere near worth a four-star rating. At least there are two great restaurants across the street.

Apart from one big problem, my stay was good. The room was beautiful and check-in was easy, but it had no hot water. I contacted the front desk at night using the room phone and also sent messages. The man at the desk said I'd receive a coupon off my stay, but none was offered at checkout, and they said I hadn't called. After all that, I was finally offered a free night. Parking was inconvenient, with a very small lot and little room for larger vehicles. The hotel sits in a pretty little area near a church, close to downtown, though there were a lot of homeless people around.

Clean rooms, friendly service, and a handy Downtown Tucson location made this a great stay. I'd book it again for work or a personal trip.

I wish I could've stayed longer. The rooms were modern, clean, and so well soundproofed that getting some rest was easy. Both the front desk and bar staff were welcoming, and the desk team helped answer my questions and get me settled. It's a great downtown Tucson spot within walking distance of plenty of fun things. I did manage to attend a large Day of the Dead celebration nearby, though I wanted more time to explore. I'll look this place up if I return to Tucson.
