My Place Hotel-Tucson North/Marana/Cortaro, AZ

For a very reasonable nightly rate, you get a large room with a kitchen, an outdoor grilling area, and excellent service. Lexi is outstanding. If you have a dog, there are several places right by the hotel to walk it. Best value in the Tucson area.

We booked two nights for my son's soccer tournament, but he broke his arm the night before and couldn't go. My husband called from the ER 20 hours before check-in to cancel. They said they'd cancel one night, but wouldn't refund the other because it was under 24 hours' notice. I called and asked for Alfred. He answered himself, put me on hold, then said “the manager” would call me back, though that was him. About an hour later he called, already irritated and defensive before I'd explained the situation. He refused a refund, voucher, compensation, or any other offer. I brought up the negative reviews about management communication and asked if he wanted to improve those interactions or risk losing more customers. He said, “That’s a risk I’m willing to take.” If you can afford to throw money away, book here. If there's a problem with your room or reservation, or an emergency, I don't think you'll get help. A little kindness and flexibility matters when something unexpected happens, and I didn't find that at My Place Tucson North.

There were roaches in both the bathroom and kitchen, and the room hadn't been cleaned. We were told housekeeping only comes every four days, which isn't acceptable for a hotel stay. For a new hotel, the upkeep and pest problem are especially disappointing. We were also surprised to learn that all three nights were charged in advance, since that hadn't been made clear when booking. I called several times and left messages for Alfred, the manager, but never heard back. Between the bugs, the cleanliness, and the lack of response from management, we won't stay here again.

We covered 6,400 miles on this trip, and this was easily the best hotel we stayed in. The price was very reasonable, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the clean room felt like a studio apartment, with a full-sized fridge and kitchenette. We hadn't traveled in more than five years, and so much has changed. Prices have shot up while the quality at familiar hotels has dropped. I hope MyPlace can keep up the quality. It's far above the rest.
