Brut Hotel

We went to Soma for Thanksgiving dinner, not to stay at the hotel. The $55 pp special was disappointing. The food arrived barely lukewarm and was bland. The turkey leg was meant for two people and very dry, with little if any seasoning on anything. The mac-n-cheese had a good texture but was dry and flavorless, with no real taste of cheese. The best thing was the cranberry spread, served with one roll per person. My key lime pie was an extra $7 for a 2" slice. The crust looked and tasted badly burned, so I just ate the filling, which was good, but the price wasn’t worth it. Service was attentive and exceptional, though our server accidentally charged someone else’s ticket to my card and her manager had to fix it. We were patient since mistakes happen, but it’s not what you expect in such a nice place. The sunset view from the rooftop was beautiful, and you could almost forget where the building is. I know the area well, and could tell the people around us didn’t, so it’s a wonderful spot if you don’t live nearby or know the area. The building could’ve been powerwashed or painted when it was bought. Pulling in, I could still picture the apartment building it used to be, with its quirks, interesting tenants and vermin. The renovations look great, though some parts of what must’ve been a huge project could’ve done a better job hiding the old layout.
