Grand Canyon Plaza Hotel-South Rim

The hotel is close to the Grand Canyon’s south entrance, so it’s a handy base when you’re ready to explore. Service was quick, pleasant, and informative. They also have signs about what they conserve and how guests can help reduce waste. Inside, the place is beautiful and clean, with at least two restaurants, one for breakfast and one for dinner. The menu includes suggested wine pairings. The food is a bit overpriced.

The site and the product are what they are. Rooms had the basics, and the bed was average, probably ready for a new mattress. Customer service felt lacking, as you might expect in a big tourist spot. There was a long spiel and lots of conditions, which came across as a bit invasive. Still, it was a good stay and we slept decently.

Just outside the park’s south entrance, this hotel was in a handy spot. Our top-floor room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with good internet. It seemed to have been renovated recently, though the furniture still looked dated. No big deal.

The photos on the website don’t show how worn and dated this motel has become. Calling it three-star feels misleading. I’ve stayed in two-star places, like Motel 6 in Auburn, CA, that were much newer and in better shape. The rooms looked tired, with poor lighting, and the exterior walkways had AC condenser units sitting outside the room doors. My wife and I regretted spending two nights here last month. Our first room’s AC didn’t work, and it took two hours to assess the problem before we were moved to another room. If you stay here, be prepared to be disappointed.
