Superior Shores

The best part of our wedding day was saying our vows outside on the pebble beach by Lake Superior in April. It felt like a dream, and we're so grateful to Superior Shores for making it possible. We booked our April 2026 wedding there, and it was a fairytale setting for our family and friends. Having the room block, welcome event, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and catering all on-site made the whole experience exceptional for us and our guests. Nicole made planning easy. She's an event-planning expert, didn't miss a detail, and was incredibly friendly and hospitable. Eric, the general manager, personally served our meal on the day, a small, thoughtful gesture that meant a lot. Sergio worked with us on the menu, and the food was outstanding. We had around 175 plates served, and the quality, portions, and consistency impressed us across every meal. The options were unique and made the day feel special. We held a separate cocktail hour at Vue North Restaurant. Its balcony has a stunning lake view, and the newly remodeled space gave our guests beautiful photo opportunities. The renovated ballroom has a ground-level lake view, yard games, and a campfire. The team did a great job maintaining the yard, no small task in northern Minnesota in April. Nicole also had the full front desk staff ready for all 175 guests, and they handled every request from them and me flawlessly. The kids loved the pool and spent lots of time exploring the expansive outdoor areas. Superior Shores made a magical wedding venue and, with views and great food, would also suit a charming weekend getaway. I could write a book about how exceptional our experience was. We arrived at check-in time, but our room wasn't ready. The hotel asked us to wait in the lobby and said they'd call when it was available. We spent time coloring, painting rocks, and walking around, then waited an hour with our three kids. Just as I was telling the desk we wanted to cancel, they said the room was ready. It wasn't the water-view room in our booking, either. It looked out over the hotel parking lot instead. My sister had also booked there. Her room was supposedly ready when she arrived, but we found trash on the counters and what looked like a tip left for the cleaners. Then she was told she'd need to wait about an hour for her room. By then our mood was pretty low, and we thought about driving home, but the kids would've been sad. We're trying to salvage the evening. I can't recommend this place based on our experience, though maybe it was just a bad day or a staffing issue. To their credit, after I pointed out the discrepancy to the front desk, they moved us to a Lakeview room. We're thankful for that.

We didn't want to leave this relaxing, secluded-feeling place. Our suite was beautiful, with a whirlpool, fireplace, full kitchen, balcony, and gorgeous Lake Superior views. I fell in love as soon as we walked in. The atmosphere feels rustic but high-end, and the welcoming lobby is adorable and cozy. There's a hot cocoa and apple cider bar, freshly made popcorn, a station for coloring rocks to leave as a memento, board games, chess, and rentals for the mini ice rinks. Gooseberry Falls is close by for an easy day trip. The Vue restaurant inside the resort was phenomenal too, with the best Brussels sprouts I've ever had. Customer service was superb, and management was attentive and hospitable. We'll be back, and I can't wait to see it in summer!

I rented a room for two days and brought my dog, Nacho. I paid a $50 pet deposit, then a week later they charged me $107.38 for a cleaning fee. When I spoke with the manager, she said my three-year-old dog had urinated all over the floor. She also said the room hadn't been rented because seven days after I checked out they were still getting the urine off the floor. I don't believe they could still be cleaning up urine seven days later. Nacho came to work with me every day and was never left alone in the room. He's family and part of the company I own, so we only slept there. This was the worst resort experience I've had.
