Tybee Island Inn

The place may have been beautiful years ago, and the location is great, but our stay was a huge disappointment. We arrived at 3:30 pm and couldn’t get into the Inn. After five calls, we heard nothing from the owners. Our friends happened to meet an owner in the parking lot, where he leaned out of his truck, gave them a room code, and drove away. We followed them inside, but no one was around. The patio was unkempt, with rusty chairs scattered about and black mold covering the stairs. Nothing about the entrance felt quaint or welcoming like the online photos suggested. Our room at the end of the filthy hallway was disgusting. There was an old, matted rug, dog kibble, dirt, sand, leaf litter, and even a Walmart receipt on the floor. The bedspread was old and dirty. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned, the toilet hadn’t been flushed, and there were soap streaks in the shower and stains in the toilet. After more calls and emails went unanswered, my husband and I left to find somewhere else to stay. I’ve only written one Google review before, but this place was disappointing enough that I felt I had to.

I accidentally booked for the same day instead of the next day. When I got there, the room key didn’t work. They told me by phone there’d be no refund or credit, though rooms were available at full price. I found another hotel for that night, closer to the water and at a better rate. The policy may have been followed, but I’m still out a few hundred dollars and had a bad experience.

Those breakfasts were amazing, and I’m still thinking about them. We spent a week here and had a wonderful, relaxing stay. The front patio beneath the gorgeous trees was lovely, and the beach is just a short walk away.

The courtyard was a nice place to unwind, and it stayed peaceful and quiet the whole time. We had to book late, so we stayed in two different rooms, and both were wonderful. Breakfast was delicious on both days, and there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance for other meals. Tybee Island Inn is also ideally located for getting to the beach access. We loved our stay and would come back if we return to Tybee Island.
