Adventure in Paradise

What makes Maui Tradewinds so memorable is Bev and David’s care. They welcome guests with the warmth they’d show friends and truly want you to have a lovely stay. I’ve been coming since it first opened, and both vacation settings feel bright and breezy, with island charm in the furnishings. They manage to feel luxurious while still being cozy. There’s room to relax privately or have friends over, and the location makes it easy to slow down while keeping access to places to explore and adventures. Hosts who care from the heart? Priceless.

I visit now and then to give guests mobile massages, and I’m struck by the beauty around this quiet hideaway every time. It’s tucked away, clean, and surrounded by natural beauty. I’m sure it would be a lovely place to stay.

We’d come back, though we’d choose the cottage next time. We stayed six days, and the setting is gorgeous, the decor tasteful, and the hosts clearly work hard to look after guests. Check-in came with a thorough run-through of the hot tub, laundry room, sauna, Dish TV, phone, Wi-Fi, snacks, and food in the fridge. There was fresh fruit around too, and lots of thoughtful details. One thing to know before booking the Tradewinds suite, the honeymoon suite: the listing covers two properties. Starwinds suite, the cottage, is separate. Tradewinds is downstairs in the hosts’ house, while they live upstairs. They’re discreet and we didn’t hear much, but you’re aware other people are there. From the chairs or hammock, the upstairs terrace blocks much of the sky. The listing photos show both suites, so we thought the Tradewinds suite would have its own terrace and open ocean views. It doesn’t. It wasn’t a dealbreaker since the jacuzzi with great views is only about 20 meters away, but the photos weren’t accurate. Separate listings with their own pictures might help. The kitchen setup also caught us out. The small stove and a few appliances are outside. Indoors there’s a fridge and plenty of counter space, but no stove, microwave, or dishwasher. You also have to call the host to switch the tiki torches on or off, so we didn’t use them. Stayed June 2016.

Tucked into the jungle in Haiku, Maui, this is a great pick if you want privacy. The views, location, and hosts were all great. I’d recommend staying here.
