Cambria Hotel Akron - Canton Airport

This was a last-minute stay after our power went out. All we needed was a cooler room and a hot shower, and my expectations weren’t high. But the shower in the first room looked untouched by a cleaner, with someone else’s hair all around it. We called, and they moved us, saying a cleaner would check the next room. The bathroom there was clean, but by the bed we found a used nicotine pouch, what looked like old food, and a piece of toenail. I’ve stayed in much cheaper hotels and never had an experience this poor.

They were renovating when we visited, and the place showed some wear, as you’d expect of a hotel over time. We’d stayed here many years ago and had such a good experience that coming back felt like an easy choice. This time we appreciated the modern sundry shop, fairly priced breakfast, friendly bar staff, and fitness room that was kept in good shape. There was a small issue with our room at check-in, but they quickly offered us another one. I appreciated how responsive they were, and I’d consider staying again.

The staff ignored our problems, so I’m writing this after one of my worst hotel stays in a long time. My elderly father needed a walk-out shower, which I had booked, but the room didn’t have one. It also had a long list of problems: it clearly hadn’t been cleaned, there was hair everywhere, I stepped on an earring, and the furniture was broken and stained. The door had holes in it and didn’t close by itself. A large mirror was just propped against the wall instead of mounted. The hotel was freezing throughout, including the hallways, lounge, and bar. The shower water was cold too and took a long time to heat up. A couple of rooms away, a large birthday party had maybe 20 people in one room. Kids ran through the halls to the elevators and pool, leaving the floors and elevator with big puddles. People were loud and ran around late into the night. Some hung out in the hall, and people stood by the front door smoking weed. The whole hallway smelled strongly of it, maybe from their room too. I notified the front desk, but nothing was done. I barely slept. In the morning I found out they no longer serve breakfast, even though the website photos and information say they do. There was no breakfast. I don’t know who’s running this place, but they clearly don’t care. Don’t stay here.

The building had a strange feel, and the hallway smelled like trash, probably because trash was sitting there. The main area lights were off, and the place wasn’t very clean. Our first room had a TV that wouldn’t work. In the second, the heat took ages to come on. This used to be a nice hotel, but it’s gone downhill. I’ll look at other options next time I’m in town.
