OYO Hotel Breckenridge TX Hubbard Creek Lake

I know it was the cheapest motel around, and I booked and paid for a room. But when I finally arrived alone, late at night, the parking lot was empty and most of the room lights were off. There was nothing nearby, and the place felt creepy and seedy. Then I found a sign on the office saying the hotel was closed indefinitely. I had nowhere to sleep, and my money was already spent. I was standing alone in the dark imagining Norman Bates coming out of the shadows, with nobody around to stop him. It was a terrible experience. Don’t book a reservation online for this place.

We’re truck drivers, and when we’re working in Breckenridge, we usually check whether we can park the trucks and look at a hotel before paying. We’ve landed in some unpleasant places before. This one looked cute from outside and had fresh paint. There was only one car in the lot, so we thought vacancy wouldn’t be a problem. It was 6pm, though, and the office was dark with the open sign off. After we knocked several times, an angry, sloppy, grey-haired man came to the door and said he had no rooms because of the virus. He added some colorful language and told us to “stay safe.” Thankfully, the other two motels in town were open, and we found a lovely, friendly place for the night. Everyone we spoke to in town said he was an awful person and that we were better off not staying there. If we’re in the area again, we’ll gladly pay double elsewhere.

I booked rooms here for my staff, who arrived a day late after travel delays. We tried calling, but the number listed online was out of service. I figured arriving the day after the reservation began wouldn’t be a problem in a town of 6,000 that isn’t bustling. At 10 PM, we found the front door locked. Since the online number didn’t work, I called Expedia repeatedly. After they contacted the hotel management company, I was told my staff were “no-shows” and couldn’t check in. I was shocked they’d take the full payment and refuse us entry, especially with nobody else at the hotel. Apparently they’d rather leave rooms empty. I travel across the country for work and have never had service this disgusting. If you like being robbed, this is the place for you. Everyone else should go down the road to Ridge motel.

The towels were badly stained and should have been replaced. Each person got just one very thin towel and one very thin washcloth. The bathtub was stained too, with half a stick-on non-slip mat peeling away. The hot and cold water were reversed at the tub faucet, so it was a very cold shower in the morning until we figured that out. There was also a spider in the tub, plus a beetle and a baby cockroach in the room. The gravel parking lot had plenty of deep holes that could swallow your tires. For these conditions, the price was excessive. I wouldn’t recommend this place.
