Hampton Inn Uvalde

The complimentary breakfast was bad, easily the worst hotel breakfast we’ve seen. The hot options were an omelet with visibly greasy cheese, slices of Polish sausage sitting in about an inch of grease, and potatoes. I’d never seen Polish sausage served at breakfast before.

The room wasn’t very clean, and there was only part of a roll of toilet paper. The front desk clerk did bring me another roll. Men were doing some work, and the door was left propped open all evening.

The room itself was decent, but the stay was unpleasant from the start. I went to the front desk because I knew the mobile app “key” wouldn’t open the exterior doors, and got a room key as well as keeping the app key. With my luggage, I found the elevator out of order. There was no sign, and the desk person didn’t seem to care. I climbed four flights and neither the app nor the key card worked. I went back down to have the key reprogrammed, climbed up again, and it still failed. This happened two more times. Each trip, I told people waiting in the lobby that the elevator was broken. How hard would it have been to put up a sign? At last, the front desk person said she’d have to come up and let me in with a mechanical key whenever I needed access. Before doing that, she programmed a different kind of card, and finally that one worked. Other guests were having trouble too. A few rooms down, someone with a key that didn’t work was told by a person passing by that they’d had the same room and couldn’t get in, so they were moved to another one. By now, hotels should know how to program key cards and make app keys work. If they can’t, they should use physical keys. The service was very poor. At the very least, get a room on the first floor if you stay here.

I’ve stayed here for years, but on this trip I found out they’re charging for parking. Unbelievable in Uvalde TX. I can see it in downtown SA, but here? I can’t go to Holiday because they’re owned by the same greedy company, so I’ll have to stay in another town now. They didn’t even acknowledge my Diamond status or give me my bag of goodies. Very poor.
