We wouldn’t come back to this motel, though Valdosta seemed nice and I’d like to visit the area again. Rooms are available when you really need one, but they’re barely livable unless you’re a German cockroach. The bad reviews sound believable; some details are worse than people say. Our shower didn’t even have a full ceiling. They said no pets, then changed their minds when my wife offered to pay extra. The owner and staff seemed fairly reasonable for the most part. Illicit activity DEFINITELY happens here.
The outside may look nice, but the room was filthy and smelled awful. There was brown stuff on the walls and mattress, dirty sinks and shower, and curtains taped to the wall. They charged almost a hundred dollars for a crusty, musty room and wouldn’t give a refund. I’ve never stayed anywhere this nasty. Please don’t come here, RUN FROM HERE.
It was almost 90$ a night, and I can’t believe how nasty the place was. The bedding smelled like cigarettes or something else disgusting, and the sheets had strange stains. The walls were dirty, the sink wasn’t clean, and the shower didn’t look sanitized either. I don’t even know how I’ll sleep tonight. Dear people, run away from this motel, you’ll be really disappointed like we are.
I had to stay there for an extended time and ended up in two rooms. In the first, small cockroaches poured out from a loose pipe under the sink. I complained repeatedly, but nothing really fixed it. A “pest control” person came at irregular times, sprayed just two or three times, and grumbled while reluctantly treating the areas I pointed out. The second room had water coming through the bathroom ceiling vent. At first it happened now and then, then more often. It started to smell foul, turned faintly yellow, then darker, and stained the ceiling until mold started growing. Eventually it was clear the liquid was urine, and it came so many times a day it never dried. I wondered if there were small children being neglected upstairs, or dogs that weren’t being walked enough, and I began leaving to use public bathrooms. The stress nearly stopped me from sleeping. I complained many times, but staff tried to convince me it was shower water. That seemed possible at first because they only supplied decorative cloth shower curtains. I bought a vinyl liner myself, but I doubt most guests did. Still, shower water wouldn’t be amber and smell of urine. I eventually broke down in the office, reminding them I always paid on time or early and couldn’t keep living that way. The owner said the people above me would be moved, and the leaking stopped. When I told the desk I was leaving, several staff were there as the clerk made and handed me my last key. That night, urine came down into the bathroom again. I was so glad to be leaving. It had never been a guest upstairs. It was a staff member the whole time. The place was ridiculously overpriced for its condition. There was a full swimming pool out front, but they said guests couldn’t use it and claimed they were working on it. They weren’t. The front rooms had been renovated using money from long-term guests on the backside, who were treated like garbage in rooms that seemed like they belonged to another building. Once my toilet broke, I went to the desk to ask when maintenance would come. After dodging the question, the clerk told me the motel staff weren’t required to provide a working bathroom. I bought my own plunger that night so it wouldn’t happen again. There was also a sign for guest laundry around the main building. The laundry structure was padlocked and full of trash. They said they’d called for repairs, but no one came, then said they’d call someone else. They never did, because they had working washers and dryers but wouldn’t let guests use them. The sign makes tired travelers think laundry is available.
Run🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️ I’m leaving this while sitting on the edge of a hotel bed, and I’m going to BBB. The place isn’t worth $187 for 3 nights, even if it seemed like a good deal. You can’t see the room before booking, and once you’ve paid, they won’t refund you for anything. If you leave, you lose your money. I first got a room on the back side. As soon as I opened the door, I was met by the roach gang. I wasn’t going to pay to sleep with roaches, so I went back less than five minutes after paying. They refused a refund, but switched me to a double bed on the “front side.” No roaches seen there yet, but the room was filthy. Thank goodness I’d brought sheets, covers, washcloths, towels, and my own pillows. This is ridiculous. Even budget hotels should give people a decent, clean place to sleep and wash their body. I’ll never do this again. If you’re on a budget, look somewhere else if you can. I pray I don’t wake up with bugs. My bags are staying in the car in case I don’t want to bring bugs home or into it. These people get too much grant money for hotels and need significant capital to start. Instead of making multiple investments, they should get one place right and give people what they’d want to sleep in. That’s how success will follow. Learned my lesson about hotels with a “no exceptions refund policy”.
