The staff have all been really nice and helpful, but the breakfast change has taken away a lot of the value for me. When I stayed in September, there were grab-and-go Jimmy Dean sandwiches along with healthier choices. Now it's the usual scrambled eggs you get everywhere, without extras like a cinnamon roll, which you'd get at a Holiday Inn Express. It feels like a cheap motel breakfast now. I thought the hotel was pretty good before, even though the rooms had no microwaves or Keurigs. At this point it seems more like a SureStay by Best Western, where I'd expect about $100 a night for that kind of breakfast and room amenities.

Our usual stop in Van Horn on the drive from TX to CA was booked, so we tried this place and came away pleasantly surprised. The pet fee was fair, the rooms were clean, and the continental breakfast was one of the better ones. The staff were friendly, and the big lobby was a real help when my daughter woke early and wouldn't go back to sleep. We could hang out there together.

The morning staff were very nice, and breakfast had a pretty good selection of hot food. The room itself was small but fairly clean, with a good bathroom, and seemed decent for a 2.5-star hotel. We'd picked it because it looked new after driving from Big Bend, and arrived around 8pm. There was nobody else there besides us and one staff member who spent a lot of time on her phone. I noticed little black dots on the bed that made me wonder about bed bugs, though we didn't find any.

The heater blew dust and smelled bad when I switched it on, so I couldn't use it. I was cold and didn't sleep comfortably. Noise came through the poor soundproofing too, from cars on Highway 10, occasional trains, and strong wind outside the window. The room felt small and short on basics. The refrigerator didn't work, there was no closet, and the bathroom had no cups for brushing our teeth. There was a little safe, though it didn't seem useful, and breakfast was average. My wife had complaints too, and we won't stay here again or recommend it. We stayed one night on 11-30-2025 at avid hotel by IHG in Van Horn, Texas. When booking, the place looked newly built or remodeled, but we were disappointed once we got into the room. I'd asked for a one-bedroom and was told only a double bed was available, so I paid $168.37. The parking lot was nearly empty, which made me question whether that was really the only option, but we took the double-bed room anyway. For that price, it didn't feel worthwhile. The night before, on 11-29-2025, I'd paid $123.25 at the Hilton DoubleTree in Phoenix and got much better facilities. The comparison may be affected by breakfast being included here, our getting a double bed rather than a one-bedroom, and the smaller-city location, but the stay still wasn't satisfactory.
