Desert Inn

I stopped here for one night while heading to El Paso. The room was spacious, clean, and smelled great. The bed, mattress, and washroom were all good, and parking was ample. It's very affordable, and I highly recommend it.

It's an older place, so bear that in mind, but it was quiet and clean. The owners and staff were really nice and accommodating, which is what you get at a small place like this. Well worth the price. If you like retro, this is the spot. Highly recommend.

We spent 30 minutes knocking, calling, and looking for someone to help us, but there was nobody on site. The phone went straight to a dial tone. I was told through hostels.com that we hadn't shown up at all, despite all that, and my credit card was still charged for the night. I'd give zero stars if I could. If guests can't check in after 10:30pm and there's no staff there, that needs to be clearly stated on the home and room pages, or guests need some way to get in, like a key lockbox or coded doors. I've never booked another hotel with no way to access the room after a certain hour. Burying this rule in the terms and conditions and making no effort to contact us before closing is just wrong. For anyone else looking, the Days inn down the street is decent and staffed around the clock.

I like staying at mom-and-pop motels like this. The office staff were friendly, the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. It's conveniently located in Van Horn and the rate was great. I'd gladly stay again when I'm in the area.
