Holiday Inn Express Van Horn

The breakfast buffet was decent, and the hotel worked perfectly well for us passing through. It's not a scenic spot, but the building is newer, so it's still clean and hasn't seen much wear. I'd recommend it.

We stayed one night. It looks nice outside and the guest services seemed good, but the rooms need a lot of work. Bathroom floor tiles were loose, and duct tape was holding the jewel on the entry light, which kept flashing. There were cracks on the bathroom walls, and it needed a good cleaning.

The checkout clerk listened to my complaints and was gracious and very apologetic, given the circumstances. But I left pretty frustrated. I'm a Platinum Elite member, and if this is where IHG hotels are heading, they may lose me as a customer. I've stayed at almost every hotel in Van Horn, Texas, and they all seem bad in different ways. There was no remote in my room, so one had to be sent up. The coffee maker had been removed, meaning I would have had to go to the first-floor breakfast room for coffee. The microwave had no glass tray. I made a pizza anyway, and it made a mess. The bath drained slowly, and the toilet was loose and not properly bolted to the floor.

Good breakfast, a clean room, and really nice coffee. The woman working the desk this morning was friendly and helpful. The woman who checked us in last night was nice too.
