Super 8 by Wyndham Van Horn

Good place to rest before getting back on the road in the morning. The rate was very reasonable, there was plenty of parking, and getting in and out of I10 was quick, especially eastbound via the frontage road. Check-in was simple. It's a motel, so the room opens onto the parking lot and there isn't a connected central lobby. The room smelled of cleaning products, and the flooring and bathroom looked recently remodeled. I hate carpet in motels, so I was glad to see vinyl tile throughout. Everything was clean and worked as it should. The bed was comfortable, the shower had great hot water pressure, and highway noise was minimal in my front-facing room. McDonald's and a truck stop are next door. No complaints.

I was stuck on I10 for over five hours during the recent snowstorm, then my truck broke down. The idler pulley and serpentine belt were gone, so I had no power steering, alternator, or water pump, but somehow managed to limp over here and squeeze into a spot that wasn't really a parking space. I was freezing when I got to the lobby after driving for more than 16 hours, feeling miserable, and asked if I could check in early. They said, “no problem!” and put me in a room right beside my truck. They cleaned it on the spot and even turned on the heat. I grabbed food across the street, then finally got some rest. The man at the desk was so kind and accommodating that it nearly brought tears to my eyes. It felt like a godsend, especially given their competitive prices. They didn't gouge me when I was in a bind, and they put a smile on my face after a terrible day. Google calls it a 2-star hotel, but the service felt like 5-star, better than an expensive resort. The internet speed was FAST, better than any hotel I've stayed at. I'll come back both ways on my next round trip from TX to CA. Thank you for making my month. This is a place for a night stop in the middle of nowhere, not a 5-star hotel in a big city, but the advertised crib wasn't available. They said the website hadn't been updated. I was annoyed and just wanted to get to the room. In the first room, the bedspread had cigarette burns despite this being a non-smoking hotel, and there was a bed bug on a pillow. They had another room, which was tolerable for the night after a very close inspection because it was so late. If somewhere else that allowed pets had been available, I wouldn't have stayed here. I don't recommend it. If you have no other option, keep your luggage in the car as a small precaution against possible bed bug hitchhikers. Honest review.

Very clean place, friendly people, and a nice room with a fridge and microwave. It's conveniently close to food and groceries. Ask for a room with a **massaging chair**!! I'm not kidding. Shout-out to a hotel owner who grows cantaloupes out back.
